Events in Stockholm

by irisaachen

Hello,
I am looking for events taking place in Stockholm the first week of August. I am not sure if there are special websites for Stockholm listing those daily events like concerts, theater, ... ? It would be great to have some help!
Thanks in advance!
Iris

The Stockholm tourist office have just about everything on their site: www.stockholmtown.se and you can also check out http://whatsupsthlm.se

Yes Stockholm's official site is probably the best there is for bigger events and the other sites are good for night clubs etc too.

The only thing I can think of straight in my mind is Stockholm Pride which ends 1 August (and attracts not only gay people - it's one of the chances Scandinavians get to dress they way they want without looking out of place in an otherwise quite homogenic part of the world where not everyone dare sticking out fashion wise).

Travel Tips for Stockholm

Sights and Sounds of Stockholm

by NC_Ziggy

Colorful, Lively, Vivid, and Multi-Cultural... Stockholm is all of this and more! It's inhabitants were very friendly and hospitable.

I tend to judge a place in terms of "is this a place that I could live and be happy?" Of course, I have not experienced the winters here, but I can honestly say that I do believe I could feel at home in Stockholm and Sweden. After all, this country is constantly at the top of the list for living standards, health care, and quality of life... My fondest memory is the subject of this picture...

Changing of the Guards

by sabsi

See the Changing of the Guards at the Royal Palace. The palace is the biggest I've ever seen and the changing of the guards was really impressive. There were many horses, loads of guards and even music. It took more than an hour!!!

Here's what Bill Bryson said about the guards in his book 'Neither here nor there':

I made a circuit of the colossal royal palace (and I mean colossal - it has 600 rooms), which may be one of the most boring buildings ever constructed. I don't mean that it's unpleasant. It is just boring, featureless, like the buildings children make by cutting window-holes in cardboard boxes.
Still, I enjoyed the sentries, who much be the most engagingly wimpish-looking in the world. Sweden has been at peace for 150 years and remains determinedly unmilitaristic, so I suppose they don't want their soldiers to look too macho and ferocious; as a result they make them weat a white helmet that looks disarmingly like a bathing cap, and white spats straight out of Donald Duck. It's very hard not to go up to one of them and say, sotto voce out of the side of the mouth, 'You know, Lars, you look quite ridiculous.'

And - as often - he is so right ;)

Oldest part of the city...

by Boka

Oldest part of the city located on it's own island. Narrow streets, nice churches and houses from 13th century. Don't miss this part of the city! Trying to use my 'poor' swedish which I have studied for 14 years!

Drottninggatan..

by Erkmen

Drottning street is the main shopping street in Stockholm.. It is a pedestranized street with many shops located each side.. A nice place to walk around in the old city..

The picture shows the entrance to the Drottninggatan..

Ice Cream

by emilienoelle

As it is in all the Scandinavian countries, ice cream is very popular in Sweden. But what makes ice cream in Sweden the best are their waffle cones. In many ice cream shops there will be a person sitting at a large waffle iron making thin waffles and rolling them up into cones. They are usually filled with ice cream while they are still warm. There is nothing like it. The cones that break are put into a basket for kids and other people to take for free. Yum.
