    Tall Ship to STF Hostel

    by

Saw this ship on a city tour and took the pictures of it. I was not aware at the time that it was actually a youth hostel. I have not stayed here.

    Member's prices 2010
    Single room: from 530:- /person
    Double room: from 265:- /person
    Bed: from 230:- /adult
    Bed: from 110:- /child

Additional fee for non-members : 50 SEK per person per night, children 25 SEK per person per night

Unique Quality: The website says: Comfortable cabins on the ship - some of which have been restored back to their original style

From the hostel you are close to Stockholm’s museum, restaurants and entertainment. Simply hop on a Djurgården ferry (photo 5) to easily get to Skansen open-air museum, Cirkus concert hall and Gröna Lund amusement park. In just a few minutes you can walk to the archipelago ferries at Strömskajen and further on to Kungsträdgården. Our hostel is a meeting place for people from near and far, including global travelers, .. and families with children.

Directions: centrally located on the island of Skeppsholmen

The view from S:t Eriks bridge

by vec

On the S:t Eriks bridge (S:t Eriksbron) you have this view over the water called Barnhusviken. During summer you can stand there and watch the boats pass by.

The bridge is located near Fridhemsplan after S:t Eriksgatan.

A walk by Norrmälarstrand

by vec

Take a walk by Norr Mälarstrand to watch the water and the boats. Start at Stadshuset with great views over Gamla Stan and continue walking to Rålambhovsparken near Fridhemsplan.

Don't forget to bring your camera, because you will find a lot of great views worth remembering.

Art in the Tunnelbana

by sim1

The Stockholm Underground (Tunnelbana) is not only a way of transportation, it is also a place where you can see a lot of art. Sometimes it is a bit hidden and you have to keep your eyes open to find it, but when you start to look around you, above you, beside you, you will start to notice that it is everywhere! Here are some photos that I took at several stations: T-Centralen, Stadshagen, Fridhemsplan and Kungsträdgården. Nowadays about 130 artists are present through their art in the Tunnelbana. This can either be skulptures, mosaics or paintings. Maybe it is not all to your taste, but it certainly gives character to the place. And it made my trip with the Tunnelbana not only a trip from A to B, but also something worth to look at and discover.

Some of the stations that are known for their art are: Kungsträdgården, Östermalmstorg, Stadion, Rissne, Universitetet and Fridhemsplan.

Bicycle

by gugi66

A great way to see Stockholm, you can ride the bike almost everywere with out any problem. You can hire a bike in one place and return it in an other place so you dont have to return it at the place where you borrowed it.

A three day card costs 125 swedish crowns.

You can buy the card at SL-CENTER (in the subway/metro building) at this locations

Fridhemsplan
Gullmarsplan
Tekniska Högskolan
Sergels Torg
Slussen
Täby C
T-Centralen, lower hall

or in the

Stockholm Tourist Centre
Sverigehuset
Hamngatan 27, Entré Kungsträdgården

Stockholm in General & Thousand Island Cruise

by ryaner

Hi

In Stockholm at the start of August.Staying at STF Fridhemsplan Hostel in Kungsholmen. Arriving in city late at night so bus leaves us at the train station is it safer to walk or get a taxi and is there taxis outside the station?

Is it safe around there ?

Also thinking of doing the thousand island tour anyone recommend it ?

Also looking for places to eat and drink on a mid range budget or any info

Cheers

Fridhemsplan is relatively close to the Central station so you might find that not all taxis want to take you. There is also the underground if it is still running by the time you get there: www.sl.se

I don't know what the Thousand island tour is as I just hop on all sorts of boats when I fancy a trip into the archipelago. Enjoy it! :)
