The service here is shocking. Not only are the staff rude and arrogant, their new policy of no guests after 11pm means that you can't invite a friend over for a last drink after going out at night - and they really give you a hard time over enforcing this ridiculous rule. Parties are one thing, but having a friend in your room for a drink is quite another - it's not the YMCA!! If you want to charge hotel prices then act like one and provide fitting service.

Where in Stockholm to stay?

by brianabdm

Hi, can someone give me some guidance on what area of town is the best to stay for proximity to attractions and nightlife? I am considering the Scandic Anglais, Scandic Continental, Scandic Sergel Plaza or the Sheraton. Guidance based on proximty and value would be appreciated.

They are ALL good for nightlife and attractions. My comments are:

Continental: convenient if you want to make daytrips by regional/commuter train to Uppsala, Mariefred, Sigtuna and so on. A bit of a drab area just outside the Central station and perhaps not that many night clubs in the immediate area but perfectly safe. The Central station is also where most underground lines meet. Sergel Plaza is at the other end of this underground station but further from the station itself and closer to the Baltic side waterfront.

Anglais: in the upmarket district around Stureplan which is where all the more EXPENSIVE nightclubs and bars are (that famous people/royals like to be seen in) with bouncers and dress codes.

Sheraton: between the Central station and the parliament district with its waterfront.
