First Hotel Linne Uppsala

The most romantic

One of my two favourite hotels in Uppsala - that's where I stay during the nice spring, summer and early autumn days during my monthly trips to Uppsala. That's whenever rates are within reach of my budget. Reception staff are OK, very nice and helpful though somewhat less enthusiastic to help than in other Uppsala hotels I visited. The hotel's restaurant was nice too, the waiter was just great chatting eagerly about the food - in particular the quite surprising but nevertheless tasty Carrot Cake.
One minus to the hotel though, there is a shabby feel about the corridors that take to the rooms - battered doors that bang when you let go too early, dusty windows looking out on the street (room windows are rather dusty as well...), however, you forget about it once in your room. Breakfast can be taken in the garden or in a pavilion looking out on the Linné garden, and you can actually slink into the Linné garden directly form the hotel's terrace...

Unique Quality: The hotel is located very centrally, but offers the enormous advantage to nature-lovers to be located practically within the old botanical garden founded by Carl von Linné himself. If you are bothered by the song of a nightingale on spring evenings, don't choose this hotel for your stay. However, if you want to wake up in the morning feeling that you are out in the middle of nature, looking out on a wonderful garden, all in yellow in spring, multicoloured in summer, pretty melancholy in autumn, this is where you want to stay. Additionally, if you're a lady, the hotel offers the "First Lady room" option, providing for a minimum extra cost a set of top of the range bath products and accessories, slippers, a bath gown, an electric kettle (and the possibility to prepare tea or coffee when working late in the evening).
