Can anyone tell me how to get to Skavsta airport to Uppsala if my flight arrives at midnight? Would it be better to take a taxi or would that be prohibitively expensive?

Flygbussarna (airport coaches) depart from Skavsta in connection with Ryanair arrivals. The last bus departs at 23:50 - arriving Stockholm City 01:10. From there you can take a bus at 02:00 (Länsbuss 593) with a change at Arlanda terminal 5 (Länsbuss 801) to Uppsala - arrival 03:55.

The distance from Skavsta to Uppsala is about 170 km. A taxi will cost around SEK 2,300.

Travel Tips for Uppsala

Museums' opening times

by marielexoteria

Unfortunately the museums in Uppsala don't have the best opening times, so if you want to plan your trip while still at home check out Uppsala's museums (main site).

This site is a list of all the museums with their addresses, opening times, phone numbers and websites. To call for information add the prefix +46 to the phone numbers listed on the site.

The Chapel of Memory

by MalenaN

In the first side chapel to the left there are two big textiles hanging on the wall. The 14 pictures on the textiles are showing the 700 year old history of the cathedral. It is made by the artist Ann-Marie Forsberg and it took 2884 working hours to finish it. It was made for the opening after the the renovation 1976.

St Erik's Shrine

by MalenaN

Erik was a Swedish king killed by the Danish in 1160. He was attending a mass at the church when he got the message that the Danish were comming. He waited until the mass was over and by then the Danish had already arrived. Erik was killed on the place where the cathedral is built and it is said some miracles happened as he had been killed. He became a saint.
The shrine is made of gold-plated silver and contains Eriks skeleton and his crown. The now exsisting shrine is from the 16th century. The previous one was melted down by king Johan III, who later had a new one constructed.

Fyrisån

by MalenaN

The river floating through Uppsala is called Fyrisån. During the springfestival of April 30 there is a boatrace on the river. People make there own "boats", boats made in different themes. As you can guess several of the boats don't succed to go futher then the small waterfall on the picture. It is usually very crowded with people along the river that day and it can be hard to get a glimps of the boats if you are not there in time.

Skokloster Castle

by Sjalen

You can get to this magnificent Baroque castle by boat from Uppsala in summer as m/s Carl Gustaf leaves from its quay along the Fyris river. There is an extraordinary collection of well-kept furniture from all over Europe here as the first owner, Wrangel, spent as much time on the continent as in Sweden. You can go on guided tours in the castle and will also have the chance to see a great little medieval church with viking runestones outside, as well as Sweden's first motor museum with great curiosity value - all this in a great Lake Mälaren setting. Read much more on my Bålsta page.
