Snow and more snow
During the winter it's normally snow in Umeå but sometime it can come quite much snow at the same time.
I lived for three years in Umeå while studying, and this is the house where I lived, after a night when it came a lot of snow.
The City of Birches
The place where I live is a pleasant university city in northern Sweden. In 1888, much of the city burned down and to pervent new fires, birches were planted along the streets. That is how Umeå got it's nickname, "The City of Birches". In the 1960s, Sweden's fifth university was located to Umeå. This has meant a rapid growth of the city's population and today, Umeå has more than 100.000 inhabitants. Like myself, many of Umeå's inhabitants have in-migrated from other places in Sweden and also from other countries. Umeå is a "young city", the average age of it's population is 34 years.
