Deer at Tidö Slott

Like many castles in Sweden, there is a fenced of area where the deers are wandering around on the castle property. The area is fenced off, but I think you can get through the gates to hike here. There are some limitations though, like not disturbing the deer and not accisible during some times of the year when the deer have young (or something like that). As I was on a trip to Västerås I didn't make a hike here, but I did take the time to walk to the back of the castle to look into the gardens. And yes, I was lucky enough to spot this group of deer not that far from the castle.

Here you watch the local football team Västerås SK when they play. They play now 2006 in the next highest division in the Swedish football league. It is called Superettan. Money to buy a hot sausage in the break if you usually get hungary.

The vikings

I found this quite an interesting map, you have to click on to be able to see it though. The map shows some important sites for the Vikings in the area of Mälaren. Anundshög (where we are now) is on this map, and this location is included in the European Council's Viking Route. There are other locations in Mälardalen included in the Viking Route, the nearest being Sigurdsristningen. And at the Sigurdsristningen is where I live now! This important historic place is only a 10 minutes walk from my home. There is lots about these rock carving (the Sigurdsristningen) on my Sundby page. So if you are interested in the Vikings or runic stones this is a page you shouldn’t miss!
Other interesting places on this map are Birka and Sigtuna, both are still on my travel wish list, but I hope to go there next summer. The Vikings were real tradesmen and travelled all over the globe. There are traces of them from Canada in the west to Russia in the east.

This is a picture of the Rudbeckian Gymnasium in Kyrkbacken. This is Sweden's oldest upper secondary school, founded in 1623 by Bishop Johannes Rudbeckius. You can see a statue of the bishop in front of the cathedral (see later tips).
