Bakeries and charm
I could have made a page about Alingsås ages ago, but I lack pictures. Therefore, I will only write a little, but hopefully enough for you to get a flavour of this nice little wooden town, only half an hour by train from Gothenburg and therefore ideal for a daytrip if you want to see a typical Swedish wooden town.
To us Swedes, Alingsås is known for being the home of Jonas Alströmer, the man who brought the potato to Sweden - this the most staple of staple food in Swedish cuisine today! :)))
Those of us who have grown up in the region also know it as a town full of bakeries. Everywhere is the smell of cinnamon buns and other lovely temptations. The town lies just in between the inland rocky lake landscape of Gothenburg and the vast Västergötland agricultural plain, which gives interesting countryside scenery too whatever your preference.
