The Hotel Eggers is the archetypal station hotel; solid, square, old, with wide staircases and creaky floors. If you can manage to dodge the trams and the taxis it takes just a few seconds to walk from the station – the oldest in Scandinavia – to the hotel. Some of the single rooms are rather poky, but the real gem is the hotel's glorious dining room, where you can relax in surroundings which suggest a slower, more sophisticated era of travel. It's the kind of place where the manager moves discreetly from table to table to query whether everything is to the guests' satisfaction.
Directions: Opposite the city's main railway station
The hotel has a genuine belle-epoque flair, especially in the lobby and the restaurant.
The location is excellent, because it is really close to the railway station and to the bus station. We arrived with a rented car, and also the parking lot of Avis is near the station, so the hotel location is certainly convenient with all means of transport.
Unique Quality: The location is extremely convenient not only because it is easy to arrive and depart, but also because the square is a pedestrians-only area, so no traffic noise, and it is pleasant to sit outside when the weather is good.
The hotel is also very central in the city, so it is possible to walk to all the major attractions.
