EXCITING LOCATION
Haga is very old. But there is modern shopping and lots of "happening" there. Excellent walking/people watching opportunities. So many different things to see and do. From water, museums, and food - to shopping and photo ops.

I will be in Gothberg in January, staying at Lerum, what is the best way to travel between Gothberg and Lerum ? How much would a taxi fare be ? Is there a commuter rail link and how long would it take to travel between them? Is Euro accecpted? thanks in advance .
According to www.vasttrafik.se, which takes care of traffic between Gothenburg and surrounding areas, it takes 29 minutes to go from Göteborg C (central train station and bus station) by taking a commuting train towards Alingsås and getting off at Lerum station. You don't give specifics so I took 2 stations where a lot of people get on and off.
There are a variety of tickets, depending on how long you're staying. If you want to pay as you go, then you need to stample 6 coupons for Lerum-Gothenburg and viceversa and costs 12.50 SEK per coupon (new price starting on Jan 5, 2008). They also have a discount card called Maxirabatt 100, valid for trips up to 100 SEK. Notice that since Aug 20, 2007 tickets may not be bought from the driver. They also have a monthly card but I don't know how much it is.
Thanks for your prompt reply, have you any idea how much a taxi would cost for the same journey.? I am staying at the Ibis hotel in Lerum ( made a mistake in booking as the hotel stated city centre )I have found out how to get from the airport to centre of Gothberg, need a plan to get to Lerum without hassle, thanks again

I have not the slightest idea of how much a taxi costs, but my guess is between 300-400 SEK which is a lot, imo. Taxis run by the meter here, and a serious taxi company car will have the name and phone number of the company printed on the doors and a price list on one of the rear mirrors.
I don't know if you're traveling with a lot of luggage, but if not then from the airport you take the airport coach (flygbussarna). A ticket to Gothenburg is around 80 SEK. Get off at Brunnsparken and from there walk towards Göteborg C (central station), position (platform) C and take the train and get off at Lerum station. According to the hotel's website this stop is 800m from the hotel, but you can also take the bus 530 towards Aspen and get off at Ekollonvägen. If in doubt, I recommend you e-mail the hotel and ask what you should pay for the cab from the airport.
Happy travels and happy new year.
Oh sorry, I misread about the taxi cost. I guess it should be between 200-300 SEK. Same rules as above apply.
I'd say you will probably pay more than that for a taxi, at least 400 SEK.
Stick with the train when possible. And don't take the train to Lerum station but rather to Aspedalen Station, which is the station before Lerum. Train takes 16 minuted station to station.
Micke: if you don't mind my asking, why should he take the train to Aspedalen instead?
Because the hotel is located betweed stations Aspedalen and Aspen.
Lerum is the main town there so it is said to belong to Lerum but Aspedalen Station is still the closest stop on the commuter rail link.
Also I just saw that it is probably too late for tips now anyway... :)
Late or not, it's still appreciated :)

If you're like me and you get caught in the rain, then a great way to get warm again is to enjoy a sauna. Now, saunas are actually Finnish in origin (they pronounce it "sow' nah"), but you will often find them in Swedish residences too.
It is very relaxing sitting in a sauna. You just sit there in a towel for about 20 minutes and that's all you need. Lean against the wall and contemplate your day, read a book, or have a sauna with a friend and just chat.
Although make sure that you remove any jewellery before entering a sauna, as the metal will heat up and 'burn' against your skin, not pleasant.
For instructions on 'how to take a sauna', check out the website below :)
If you are ever invited into a Swedes house always take off your shoes as you go in. This is a polite custom. Also if you want to buy alchohol there is only one place called System Bologet. Its open weekdays but not weekends. Be warned, Swedish alcohol tax means you pay more. Buy Duty Free if you can. And you must be 20 years to buy alchohol there.
Goteborg is a football obsessed city. With IFK Goteborg, Orgryte IS and GAIS it has 3 teams playing in the Allsvenskan league. Allsvenskan is the highest football league with the 14 top Swedish clubs.
When I was in Goteborg I took the chance to visit the match IFK Goteborg vs. Helsingborg IF. The standing ticket was 120 SEK and the attendance in the Gamla Ullevi Stadium was 8.150. The match ended with a 2:2 draw.

Kungälv is a small town some 30 km north of Göteborg and worth seeing for its picturesque wooden houses in the centre and for a huge fortress. It stands where two rivers (Göta and Nordre Älv) meet as that was an important defence point in the wars between Norway and Sweden in the days when Norway held the province north of Göteborg. Apart from that, the area between town and the seaside area around Marstrand is very picturesque in its tranquility.
