You must eat Västkustsallad at Avenyn, the main street in Gothenbourg. Or baked potato with västkustsallad. Well, don´t forget the fresh shrimps too. Another thing is to watch a football game with IFK Göteborg.

Dear all
I'm visiting Norway and Sweden is the week of 25 to 31 Jan, and I was wondering if it's worth to catch a train between Oslo and Göteborg? I mean is the landscape worth?
How are the trains in Sweden? Is it very expensive?
Thanks in advance for your answers. I'm looking forward for my first time in Scandinavia :)
Luisa
It's a rather pretty landscape with woods, open fields, pretty many lakes, in the start (from Gothenburg) you travel along the river Göta with rather busy ship traffic, more than once you travel along the coast/fjord, coming in to Oslo you have a nice view of the town. The trip Gothenburg - Oslo takes about 4 hours each way, costs about Nkr 400,- each way and runs 3 times a day. The trains on this route are excellent tilting EMU's with a maximum speed of 210 km.p.h.
Hello,
for detailed info on trains between Göteborg and Oslo have a look at:
http://www.nsb.no/?lang=en_US
or
http://www.samtrafiken.se/Resplus/Flersprak/English/
I've seen some special offers at the NSB site. A return trip Göteborg - Oslo will only cost you around 53 Euros. These offers are limited, though. You'd have to book as early as possible.
You could also go by bus for only around 38 Euros (return journey):
http://www.swebusexpress.se/
The journey will take you around 4 hours, no matter if you decide to go by train or bus.
Cheers,
Elena
Thanks for the infos. I decided in the end to do Oslo-Gothenburg since I'm considering to visit Denmark as well.
Hi Elena
many thanks for the useful bargain tips :)

The Avenue, or 'Avenyn' is a lively boulevard that is bordered by trees, shops, restaurants, cinemas, museums and theatres, making it a favourite strolling area for residents and guests of the city. Amongst some sights you will find the Museum of Art, the Concert Hall, the City Library, and the Museum of Design and Crafts.
At the south end of the avenue is Götaplatsen, recognisable by the Poseidon Statue that was sculpted by the famous Swedish artist Carl Milles.
The Avenue connects two squares, Götaplatsen and Kungsportsplatsen. The buildings are unique in that they are divided into two sides by architectural differences. On one side, French architecture dominates, whilst on the other, examples of English architecture are the more dominant.
In Göteborg I also had my first alcohol in Scandinavia experience. We went to one of the official alcohol shop because we were curious what the prices were like. You have to buy alcohol in one of these shops which are run by the state - you don't get it anywhere else.
I felt like doing something prohibited. You had to pull a number, wait and when your number appeared you could go up to the counter and tell the lady what you wanted to buy. Very strange feeling...and very high prices!!
I did get to see a match of the famous IFK Göteborg - although it wasn't in Göteborg but down in Helsingborg, 2 hours south of Göteborg (they won against Helsingborg 0-2). They are definitely an excellent team - they finished second on the ladder this season.
The club was formed in 1904 and since then they have won in the Swedish league 17 times.
To be honest I can't really tell you much more about the club than that - but if you check out Calcio's Göteborg Page, you will find a HEAP of information about IFK Göteborg and other football/soccer related things in Göteborg.
Well, you have to go to the football stadium Ullevi and watch this fabaoulos team from Göteborg, called IFK Göteborg. They have many nick names as Änglarna, Blåvitt och Kamraterna. Trainer this season 2005 is a man from Norway, Arne Erlandsen.
