Stocken camping

by sim1

I stayed at Stocken Camping on the island of Orust for the week and it was a great choice! Agreed it is a busy campground, probably because of the high season, but I guess that goes for all accomodations in the area for this time of the year.

The prices (2008) for a caravan in high season including electra 260 kronor (approx. 43 USD / 28 EUR). A tent including 4 persons during high season will cost you 195 kronor (approx. 32 USD /21 EUR)

A nice alternative might be to rent a cabin here. The prices vary quite a bit, but the cheapest one during high season costs 750 kronor per day (123 USD / 80 EUR). Travelling outside high-season (=16 juni-10 aug) will save a lot of money on your stay.

You can make reservations for a place on the campground, but unfortunately you can't make reservations for a particular spot. It is first come, first served. So be on time during the day if you want to find a nice spot.

You can find more info about the campground and prices on their website: www.stocken.nu

The campground is a three star campground and has all facilities you can wish for. The main thing for me though is if it is clean and its location. And both were good!

My favourite part of this campground is the location. It is ideally located close to the village of Stocken, with other picturesque villages like Gullholmen Mollösund and Hällevikstrand in the area.

The campground is not 'directly' at the sea, so you don't have any sea views. But that is actually a good thing as the rocks will protect you from the cold seawinds. A nice 5 minutes walk will bring you right to the beautiful coastline! (see the photos in my must see tips).

STF Vandrarhem Tofta gård/Orust

by sim1

This place charmed me right away: STF Vandrarhem Tofta gård! It is located just outside of Stocken and I think the perfect place to stay when you travel on a budget. The location: wonderful! What can I say.... look at the picture! Doesn't it look picturesque!

didn't stay here myself because I was camping in the neighbouring campground. But I was so surprised by this wonderful hostel that I had to take a quick look inside for you guys to check it out. And not only the outside was good, the inside too! Everything was well taken care of and clean, clean, clean. Definately a place where I wouldn't mind staying for the night.

Prices during high season (2007):
members of the STF: 190 kronor per night, non-members 240 kronor per night.

If you want a single room for your own: 290 kronor, non-members 340 kronor. A double room costs 380 kronor, non-members 480 kronor.

"Boring" is the name: Marstrands Familje Camping

by sim1

During our visit to Marstrand island, we stayed at the "Marstrands Familje Camping" / "Marstrands Family Campground". This campground is located not on the island of Marstrand itself, but on the other side of the water at the island of Koön (which has a connecting road to the mainland). The campground is roughly a 20 - 30 minutes walk away from the ferry. Of course you could take the car towards the ferry, but as parking at the ferry area isn't that easy, and you need to pay for it as well, this short, rather pleasurable walk is a great alternative.

The campground is so-so. I can't say I was very excited about it, although in theory there is nothing wrong with it. Maybe it is very well described as 'boring' 'boring' 'boring'. Tents and caravans are located quite close to each other on a large field and there are no views as the campground is surrounded by trees. There is a little store at the entrance where you can buy some supplies, although not that much. The toilets are clean and quite new and so is the kitchen area. Just outside the kitchen area are a few tables, quite handy when travelling with a small tent and not having any tables and chairs with you.

The prices for the campground are quite high; I at least didn't think it was that cheap for what you are getting. On the bright side you are located very close to the ferry and to the island of Marstrand. It is a practical place to stay for the night, but I certainly wouldn't want to stay here for a longer period of time.

The campground is open from 14 April - 30 September, with full service: 18 June - 19 August. During high season a night at the campground will cost you 200 SEK which is approx. 31 USD / 21,50 EUR. You have to pay separately for the use of the showers and kitchen.
