Finding a place for a light lunch
Coming back into the main part of the village I was getting hungry. It was near lunch time. There was a couple of small restaurants near the train station but I really did not want to go to a restaurant. I wanted to do something really local. I found a small bakery inside this green house with the pink shutters. They had home made breads and roles. I decided to purchase a ham and cheese sandwich on a hard roll. The young lady inside the bakery was very friendly and greeted me with a smile. I wanted to try out my French and try and communicate with her in her own language. My poor pronunciation did not help matters any. I asked several times for ham and cheese. She just could not make out what I was trying to say. So I said it in English I would like a ham and cheese on a hard roll. She spoke no English. We both smiled and laughed and tried to communicate the best we could. I finally pointed to the items I wanted. I tried to apoligize for my poor use of the French language. She just laughed. We both smiled. It was one of my favorite experiences on my entire trip to Switzerland. The two of us trying to be friendly and speak to one another. And in the end the only way we could communicate was with a smile and a friendly gesture. And that was really all that was necessary.
