A walk around Appenzell
The train ride from St. Gallen to Appenzell was very scenic on a warm June day. This is certainly a major dairy area, as one may have heard of the Appenzeller cheese. The train station is small. This is the first indication that Appenzell is not too large. This is a perfect place for walking.
This is a colorful town. Paint must be one of the major imports to this region. Each house is a work of art. No two are alike, and it looks like this all over town. The variety makes this very photogenic. I could tell that the Appenzellers care very much about the upkeep of the village. This place was very clean and kept in good repair.
If you like these signs, then Appenzell is the place for you. Some are more detailed than others, but all are fancy.
The main church is nice to explore. On the outside, it is the tradional Swiss house of worship with its clock tower. On the inside, something different awaits. Appenzellers are one with nature, as they bring trees into the church. The interior foliage was interesting. Besides the trees, the place is very ornate as churches in this part of the world tend to be. There are nice grounds to walk around surrounding the building. It was very quiet on a Saturday afternoon.
Although shops were closed in the afternoon, there were plenty of cafes around. Appenzell also has some nice hotels for those who wish to have an extended visit.
