Geneva City tour with Mont Blanc

by SamirGarg

On 21st May Afternoon, we want to do a Geneva City tour with Mont Blanc. Kindly let us know the most convenient mode of covering these places. Should we take a tour to cover these?
We are staying in Niederried Apartments in Interlaken & already visiting Mount Titlis & Jungfrau. What other places should we cover (not peaks) as we are staying for 6 days?
On 27th May, we will be moving to Zurich & would like to see the Rhine Falls & other interesting places. How should we go about this from our Hotel Krone?

Thanks in advance & have a nice day.

Samir, check the Geneva Coach Station web site for buses to Chamonix, maybe you can find sth useful:
http://212.203.98.98/WD140AWP/WD140AWP.EXE/CONNECT/GRweb
You can also go by train with change in St-Gervais/Le Fayet, but this would take much longer (you probably would have to stay overnight in Chamonix).
Or you can get the train from Geneva via Martigny to Chamonix, even a longer trip.
There are organized tours from Geneva, you may contact the coach station for details.
Cheers,
Richard

Travel Tips for Geneva

The Rhone

by deeper_blue

When in Geneva I couldn't fail to miss the Rhone flowing through the city. At Geneva it is very wide and quite turbulent (lots of undercurrents). The scene at night is beautiful. Also if you follow the river to the east you will come to the Lake.

Speak French

by deeper_blue

Switzerland is a very odd country in that there are 3 official languages, French, Swiss-German! and Italian, You can generally guess which region speak which by seeing which country is its nearest neighbour. Geneva speaks French.

Packing List

by Brit_girl

Backpack or suitcase, it's up to you. When it is sunny it is really warm so be prepared but it can also rain really hard so take a mac. All of your usuals plus take paracetamols, plasters etc. Take a camera, I found some things quite expensive.

Outdoor Ice Skating in the Heart of Geneva

by Tripack

Geneva offers a "Christmas Skating Rink" - a popular and entertaining diversion during the end of year festivities.

Located right in the heart of town, in the Place du Rhone, close to the "Ile Rousseau" and the Rhone River, this 500m2 skating rink is popular with young and old alike, welcoming close to 30,000 skaters every year.

A completely covered snack bar next to the rink is a perfect place for skaters to catch their breath and warm up.

Numerous events are also featured, such as skating and ice hockey demonstrations, sculptures on the ice, "Santa Claus Day",...

Dates: from November 19th, 2005 to January 29th, 2006

Price: admission to the rink is free!
Skates rental: CHF 4.- for children, CHF 7.- for adults
Opening hours: open daily from 10am to 10pm

Guinness Time?

by Tripack about Irish Pub

Here are my two favourite Irish Pub in Geneva: Mulligan's Irish Pub & Charly O'Neill's Irish Pub.

With all the survival kit for a great Big night:
- a lively athmosphere
- live band some evenings (see the events on website)
- friendly staff and clients
- big screen satellite sports with all major soccer and rugby games shown
- dart games
- kitchen food: Mexican dishes and traditional pub grub. Toasted sandwiches, potato chips and nachos chips available all hours.
- large beers choice but at Swiss price ;-(
- outdoor terasse for the Charly's
