A LITTLE MAP OF THE LAC L?MAN....
by eden_teuling
To make things a bit more clear to you I here add a little map of the Lac L?man.
Here you can see that 2/3 belongs to Switzerland and 1/3 to France.
All along the banks of the Lake are the most wonderful, atmospheric little villages and harbours.....and people are soooo friendly and hospitable!
You can make boattrips or TRAVEL BY PUBLIC transport which is not really cheap, but very punctual, reliable and frequent, which is fantastic!
Get information about the different kinds of SWISS PASSes and buy one: it will make you feel free to travel all over the country in every season!
I can recommend it to you!
I could buy my SWISS PASS here in The Netherlands in advance, which made things easy for me once I was there!
Language Barriers
by Pounder73
Switzerland has four National Languages, French, German, Italian and their own native tongue called Raetoroman (thanks
tini58de for the info), but was told to not attempt to try and speak it. I found it very interesting that these languages were in very specific regions. For example, when I was sitting having lunch in Montreux, everyone spoke French, and I didn’t hear any German. Then from there I caught a train to Gstaad, about an hour away up in the Alps, and everyone spoke German. I even met some people who lived there, that knew English better than French. Hmmmm… interesting…
Cars
by Beograd
I always thought that human fascination with cars is incredible and silly. A car is a car! The important thing is that it can transport you from one place to another. By marrying and Autodevelopment engineer my perspective on the matter has changed a bit :) Earlier I've never thought of people that actually make those cars! Of course, we all know that many people bust their brains befor etha car is on the street but it is not as real as it turns to be once you start living with one.
Hermance
by vanessadb
Hermance is a beautiful little village on the lake and only 20 minutes away from Geneva. It is a very charming place to go visit for a day, walk around, go to the beach, and eat at the Auberge d'Hermance (expensive but very much worth it!). It is also a hotel by the way, if you'd rather spend one night there.
If you decide to stay, it has 6 rooms, and the price for a double room ranges from CHF 210-350 with breakfast included
After Work Cafe
by thesaint about Arthur's Rive Gauche
The Arthur's Rive Gauche is the only reminder of what used to be one of the 1990s most famous club around the world.
This café reminds us of the baroque atmosphere which transported us every week.
This bar, lounge and restaurant was created a few years ago in what used to be a Ralph Lauren shop and by maintaining some of it, the place keeps an eerie ambiance, mixing French apéritif with Manhattan style that fits with an afterwork drink, a Saturday afternoon café or a nightly spot before going to clubs. Upscale casual.
