Skiing near Geneva

by kirsty_lamb

Hey,

We are looking to travel to Geneva in February and do some skiing. I have never beein skiing so we need somewhere for beginners, but also somewhere we can get to reasonably quickly by either train or bus (we can't hire a car).

Any suggestions?!

Thanks

Kirsty

There are buses to the French resorts, including from Geneva airport, and trains to the Swiss ones, see http://www.gva.ch/en/desktopdefault.aspx/tabid-70/.
Avoriaz 1800 (in France) is a possibility, see http://www.skibeginner.com/

Travel Tips for Geneva

Visit the site of the monument...

by O.KATALINA

Visit the site of the monument set up in protest against LANDMINES, which was one of Princess Diana's last cause. Remember the heartwarming sight of her in her army fatigue gear and walking through a mine-field?

That coupled with the powerful image of the CHAIR with one broken leg that just hit you in the eye with the message of the wreakage caused by landmines......Loook....here it is!!

Swans and more Swans

by gordonilla

I am not sure if this is a local custom or does it just happen? It seems that many swans nest around the shore of Lake Geneva, and it does appear as if their are manmade constructions for them to build homes in or near.

I was so surprised to see so many pairs of swans and even managed to photgraph at least one pair getting ready to sit on an egg.

Plane spotting

by priti.ro

A good Off The Beaten Path activity is plane spotting at the Geneva International Airport.

There are a few good spotting places, depending on the time of day. I am only going to present the one I've used. The place I've been spotting planes from is situated at Palexpo, near hall 6. As you climb from hall 7, Musee de l'Auto or the Airport, face hall 6 and then look to your left. You can see a wire fence. Go near that and enjo the view. You can see all the planes taking off or landing on the airport. You can also see part of the terminal where all the planes are stationed.

It was the most gorgeous activity I've ever done while visiting a city.

Have fun

The Ariana, which is up at the north end of Geneva near the United Nations, houses the Swiss Museum of Ceramics and Glass, which is said to be the only museum of its kind in Switzerland, and one of the most important in Europe.
