Geneva Tip
I took the Geneva to Barcelona train 6x one summer. Arriving in Geneva was always a pleasure, so calm, so stately and a bit 'French' to me. But as many of the Swiss towns are...Geneva is on a body of water, Lake Geneva.

Hi All!
Are there any good tourist attractions within walking distance of the Geneva train station that some one can cover in a couple of hours?
Thanks!
Travellingtechie!
The Floral Clock in the Jardin Anglais and the Jet D'eau are just on the lake and the first thing you will see on the left as you cross the bridge coming from the station - about 10-12 minutes walk once you get orientated.
Just before you cross the bridge on your left at Quai Mont Blanc is the Brunswick Monument.
You are also only a 10 minutes or so walk from the old town once you cross the bridge. Geneva is a compact little city, even if you do not make it as far as old town you will love the walk and the visual appeal of the city itself
Enjoy!
Geneva's lake is in the ten minutes from the train station. It's the most beautiful place in Geneva!

The only Swiss museum devoted entirely to ceramics, this collection of over 16,000 objects illustrates seven centuries of ceramics in Switzerland, Europe and the East. The Ariana Museum also has examples of 20th C work.
This tall and architecturally ornate stone folly is the high-Victorian tomb of a duke of Brunswick. It stands out on the right bank of the lake, just in front of Richmond Hotel.
The eccentric Charles II, Duke of Brunswick spent the last three years of his life in Geneva and at his death in 1873 he bequeathed his fortune to the city of Geneva on condition that they bury him in a Mausoleum which would be the exact replica of Verona's 14th century Scaligeri family Mausoleum...
Switzerland is known to be very expensive. If you look around, however, you will find many items to be less expensive than at home. Here a little help for budget travellers:
OPENING HOURS of shops vary from one canton to another. In Geneva, shops normally open from 8.30 am to 7 pm, to 6 am on Saturday and stores until 9 pm on Thursday. Ouutside these hours - including Sundays - there are many grocery shops that stay open until midnight, but are much more expensive (still useful, if you want to save on restaurant bills).
FOOD STORES: Look for special offers (Action!) with savings of up to 50 pct on standard items changing weekly. Good value are DENNER (limited choice), COOP, MIGROS, CARREFOUR, or ALLIGRO. Migros has a supermarket at the airport that stays open on Sunday until 8 pm. GLOBUS is a very nice department store, but in the medium-high price segment. A watch, of course. But beware: Swatch is cheaper in the US than in Switzerland. And there are no rebates on Rolex, Franck Muller or other luxury watches.
Why not a fondue set including a Gerber instant fondue?
Yoghurts and cheese are great in Switzerland.
And Chocolate, of course: Migros has excellent chocolates. At Manor, my favourite is the Villars chocolate with Kirsch (best in the box at about Fr. 10). Look around, and you will find that a number of products are cheaper in Geneva than elsewhere (the VAT is only 7.5 percent as compared to France 20 pct or Germany 16 pct.).
PUB LION ROUGE
Nice drinks here, located in Carouge, it's the hottest place of the region of Carouge!
Ask the barman for a 'bière flambée' ...a burning beer given in a BIG glass !...20 swiss francs..
