Geneva 1 day travelpass

by basohoni

I want to buy a 1 day SSB pass for a boat-train ride from Geneva to Chateau Chillion & back. Can someone advise me on this pass?

1. Do i need to hold a half-fare travel card to buy this pass?
2. What all transport modes are not available on this pass?
3. How do i buy the cheaper wkend pass (CHF54)? website only allows me the normal CHF 64 pass.

Sorry, am referring to the SBB pass

For the SBB one day pass you need to have a half fare card. It's an "add on" to this card, and targeted mostly to Swiss residents. Half of the inhabitants of Switzerland have a half fare card (you can buy one valid for one, two or three years here...). All modes of transport in Switzerland can be used with this pass (with the exceptions of mountain rides). You don't need to buy this from a website as you can buy both the whole day, and the 9h/weekend one from any ticket window or the ticket vending machines.

A good value for you might be the regional pass lake geneva, especially if you're staying for a few days.
Otherwhise just buy a ticket.

Dear Mr Basohoni, it always helps to know sth about the person, place of residence etc, as there are specific solutions (such as day tickets sold by Swiss town of residence). But your VT Home Page does not give any personal information.

Travel Tips for Geneva

Genève ville culturelle

by Sheila.

I always have troubles with greeting people when I go to a new country and I've more than once gotten in to a situation where I've been unsure and making a fool of myself . Anyway, in Switzerland you greet by leaning forward and kiss the person once on the left cheek (right from your side), once on the right and then once again on the left. But the Swiss people are kind of liberal so I don't really think that someone would be offended if you chake hands instead.

Nothing is hard to find here..

September-April: Warm clothes, jacket, umbrella, etc.

May-August: Light summer clothes, a cardigan just in case.

Take comfy shoes for walking around.
The Swiss dress well, so if you're a fashion buff, take a couple of smart clothes along. Pharmacie's won't issue some type of medical supplies unless you have a perscription. So bring your doctor's perscription along if you think you might run down on them. Geneva is a city, and almost everything is available- you won't have a problem finding anything you need.

Mountain lovers visiting Geneva

by oisha

If you are in Geneva and hankering to see mountains, you can get a pretty good vantage point on one of the local boat trips (CHF3.00 to cross from one bank to the other). You can see the Saleve in the south, and on a good day you can see Mont Blanc. To the north you can see the Jura stretching from west to east.

If you have a spare day and are itching to get into the mountains, you could do a train trip to Nyon (15 mins) or even Lausanne (60 mins). You get some great views of the lake with mountains behind. Also you can see the Swiss villages on the Jura from the train. There are a few things to see at Lausanne as well, and beyond there several trains head up in to the Alps. You could go to Gruyere, Chateau d'Oex or even Zermatt if it's a clear day and you want to see the Matterhorn. Zermatt/Matterhorn is a long day, but the other two are do-able as day trips, if you are really fond of mountains.
