Help us to write the tip

by Zvrlj

If anyone (especially those with the knowledge of French language) is willing to do some googling and help us write the tip about Monument de la Republique in Neuchatel, in Switzerland, please do that:

Re: Help us to write the tip

by johngayton

Hi,

There is a VT language helpers page with various people who are happy to assist in this sort of thing: http://members.virtualtourist.com/vt/tt/6/ Some of these members may be less active than they used to be and so check their HP's to see if they have been online recently. I'm sure you'll find someone who'll be happy to help. If I could, I'd help myself mais mon Francaise est la langue d'ecolaire. (see what I mean)

Chase it up - you should find someoneone helpful.

John, see the continuance on Switzerland forum (since we've posted the question on both "locations").

Neuchatel Fountains – Fontaine du Banneret (I&V)

by Zvrlj

Fontaine du Banneret – the Banneret Fountain was the first small fountain out of the former town wall. In 1581 Laurent Perroud embellished it as it now stands. The figure on the top of the pillar rising from the centre of basin is banneret – standard-bearer with lion by his leg. Restored in the same time as Justice Fountain, in 1990s, the Banneret Fountain is brightly coloured according to its 16th century appearance.

Banneret Fountain is on the Croix-du-Marche – Market Crossing.

Neuchatel's "Snail-Shell Stairway" (I&V)

by Zvrlj

Passage des Corbets – Corbets Passage is kind of closed passage with a beautiful Renaissance style spiral stairway built of Neuchatel yellow stone. There is certain similarity to another hidden Renaissance spiral staircase – Scala del Bovolo in Venice.

Not really off the beaten path, but pretty hidden, Corbets Passage can be entered from Rue de Tresor, just by Croix-du-Marche – Market Crossing.

Tour des Prisons | The Prison Tower (I&V)

by Zvrlj

Tour des Prisons – the Prison Tower is a medieval tower with the oldest parts dating back to the 10th century. It is open to the public during six months of a year and there are a few models of the town in the 15th and 18th centuries in it, as well as an old prison cell. But the most amazing thing about the Prison Tower is a view from the top of it – the top of the Prison Tower is probably the best viewpoint in Neuchatel.

The Prison Tower is open every day from April the 1st to September the 30th, from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm.

The Bannerherr-Brunnen (the Banneret Fountain)

by amsterdam_vallon

The BANNERET FOUNTAIN was at first a small fountain for livestock and is the oldest fountain situated outside the former town wall. It was then enlarged and in 1581 Laurent Perroud embellished it as it now stands. It too, after restoration, shines in its pristine brightness.

Next to the Banneret Fountain, you have the MARKET CROSSING (Croix-du-Marche) it's situated at the crossroads of the old town. The facade of the Banneret Restaurant is typical of the Renaissance period
