Neat place for the budget traveller

Paid about 30 francs (22$), had the chance to get a 4-bedded room all for myself and a friend of mine. Breakfast not included, though, and sheets aren't included either (that's a couple of dollars more).
The place is clean and well-kept and the personal is nice. There?s a garden (haven?t really used it, as it was only a short stay) where you can eat and laze around, and internet access - should you need to check something online. The place in itself is quiet, except it?s right across the station so, yes, you do get trains instead. Well, at least you can count them as a replacement for sheep.
Can't speak about the kitchen because I haven't used it, but it's there, somewhere, and there are also drink and food distributors.
If you get there by car, the hostel has its own locked places, just ask and you can park there.
At any rate, if I didn't have an apartment already, I'd certainly go there again !

Unique Quality: Dorms are in fact only 4-bedded rooms, the rest are doubles or singles.
Located near the station, so if anyone has to catch a train at some weird time of the day it's easy to reach it.

cheap, nice and well situated

The guesthouse is a kind of youth hostel...but a little bit more cosy and nice...you can feel there a little bit more at home! The decoration of the hall is really nice, the kitchen is large en well equiped (pans in all size (etc) are at your disposal! The garden with nice roses is a very nice place to take breakfast! The rooms are clean and nice, and your room is on the upper floors (2 to 5, I think) you can enjoy a very nice view on the Lake of Geneva! Just a warning : there is sometimes too much noise, not because the station is so close but because the visitors are often young and like to have fun, sometimes at any time...so you better have to have a very deep sleep....

Unique Quality: great view, cheap, well situated (next to the railway station) 15/20 minutes by foot from the beach

by andraioana

Hello!
Me and my husband are going to visit switzerland by car at the begining of september. We are interested in finding some cheap accomodation firstly in lausanne and secondly somewhere around lucerne (or in lucerne). We must mention that we need a double room and our budget is around 50-60 euro for the room.
Looking forward to your replies. Thank you very much!

Try Backpackers Luzern. I've never stayed there myself, but my wife and sister-in-law did about 4 years ago. They both speak quite highly of it. The website says a double room costs 35 Swiss Francs per night (roughly US$29 or 22 Euros). Address is Alpenquai 42. Telephone is +41 41 360 0420. Website is www.backpackerslucerne.ch .

Oops, sorry... the price I quoted is per person. So a double room is 70 Swiss Francs (roughly US$58 or 44 Euros).

hi,
I've just come back from Lucerne and I loked it so much!
I stayed in a B&B 10 min far from the center, in a village called Dierikon. I payed 70 CHF per day per person in a double room with privat toilet. Owners are very kind and speak english and german for sure, perhaps also some other language.
The location and the house are great, here you can find some information:

Enjoy your stay

Travel Tips for Lausanne

Signal de Bougy - Great viewpoint

by anne77

One of the best places to have a global view of Lac Léman, is Signal de Bougy. On a clear day, you can see from Geneva to the Valais, it's really worth the visit.

Signal de Bougy is located between Aubonne and Rolle.

Signal de Bougy is a big parc, where a lot of different activities can be done. It's a very popular place for families, as there are different play grounds, animals to see, etc. It will keep you busy for a long time!

People come here for pick-nicks, to play basketball, volleyball, play soccer/football, etc.

There is a restaurant with tables outside, so you can have a snack or a drink and enjoy the beautiful view...

There are 2 parkings, free of charge. Check out the website for more details.

Nyon

by sandysmith

Nyon (between Geneva and Lausanne) is a historic centre with roman remains. These corinthian columns were found and installed on the edge of a buff of land at the end of the Promenade des Veilles Murailles (Old Walls Walk). Once again floral decorations for 700 years are also seen. From Nyon you can cross the lake to the French side to see Yvoire a beautiful medieval geranium-filled town - well woth the boat trip and visit.

Swiss Federal Railways (I&V)

by Zvrlj

There is only one main railway station in Lausanne – Gare centrale de Lausanne – Lausanne central railway station. The huge edifice of the station was built between 1911 and 1916 along the lines of Leipzig station in Germany. It serves as an arrival and departure hub for many domestic as well as international trains.

From the Lausanne railway station there are train connections to major cities every 30 minutes, cities such as Geneva, Zurich, Bern, Neuchatel… but also "nearby" "Swiss riviera" towns Vevey and Montreux. Service of Swiss railroad company is as precise & sharp & perfect as it could be. Free booklets, very easy to "read", provide information on every arrival and departure.

We are coming from the country with pretty long tradition of railway transportation – the first traffic with steam traction in Serbia was opened in 1856, and Serbian Railways as a company is traced back to 1881 when King Milan I declared formation of the Serbian National Railways – but probably without any talent for maintaining & servicing railroad & trains & travelers – Anton Pavlovich Chekhov had even written the mocking story about his "adventures" traveling by train across Balkans. Having that in mind there is no doubt that we could easily overrate the service, but it is certain that it is very good.

Gare centrale stands between the center of the city and Ouhy. Rue du Petit-Chene leads to it from Grand-Pont, and Avenue L. Ruchonnet – from Pont Chauderon.
