Hotel Helvetie is an old Heritage Hotel in Montreux established in 1865. In front of the Casino de Montreux and about 200 meters from the lake, the hotel is located in the heart of Montreux. The hotel still holds nowadays all the elements of the original façade.
The hotel has 62 rooms furnished in the old style. The room was very large and same comment went with the toilet. There is a large dining room serving breakfast in the morning. The staffs were dressed in traditional swiss attire. Although breakfast was of cold continental buffet but upon request the attendants served us boiled eggs
Since we went before the day of Christmas there was a small drinks arranged by the Hotel Authority on the Christmas Eve. The hotel also provides cards for free local transportation

Good location but a bit dated when we visited in 2003. Large rooms, clean enough but had a 1960s feel about them. Tiny balconies which you can just about get a couple of chairs on. Very dated and the staff weren't too helpful.

We decided we had to stay at the Hotel that is famous for being Freddie Mercury's favorite hotel in Montreux.
While we haven't arrived yet, we have big plans this year at the Jazz Fest. We are staying lakeside at the Eden Palace au Lac...a nice Victorian place that is close to the casino. We intend to spend two nights partying with all the jazz Fest craziness...
