In the canton of Valais,...

In the canton of Valais, dramatic Alpine scenery with the 10 highest mountains (all over 4000 m!) in Switzerland are sighted. In the comfort of railways & cable cars, the once inaccessible regions can now be enjoyed by all. Ski resorts in Valais are world-renowned & Zermatt is one of the oldest with excellent views of the Matterhorn.
Chateau du Chatelard
by Banty
I went through Montreux and didn't get to Glion because of many road works. Then I decided to go to Blonay and on the way I remembered a castle left to the road. It is a bit hidden but you can find it if you see an alley on the left side of the street.
This is a very funny castle because it seems to be used for customs like some institute and at least a psychologist...
You can walk around, sit down to a table, take a look into the "institute" and take a look around the courtyard.
Lausanne (I&V)
by Zvrlj
When one is settled in Lausanne, one-day trip to Vevey and Montreux is certain pick. But when the base is in Vevey or Montreux, one-day trip to Lausanne is quite different thing – one day is enough just to take glance of Lausanne. Anyway, day in Lausanne is the great choice even if only to wander.
There are frequent train departures from Montreux to Lausanne but more enjoyable is to take a boat ride.
Chateau de Chillon
by Dabs
The Chateau de Chillon was listed in my guidebook as the best castle in Switzerland so when we found a little spare time on our way to Geneva we detoured towards Montreux to visit the castle on Lake Geneva (Lac Leman). We overshot the castle on our 1st pass so we headed back to Montreux and drove through town where it's clearly marked. Should you be staying in Montreux you can even walk there along the 2 mile long lakefront path or take trolley bus no. 1.
Most of the castle is 13th century architecture, built by Peter II of Savoy, but the oldest section is thought to be around 1,000 years old. The Bernese captured the castle in 1536 and stayed there until 1798 after which it became the property of the Canton of Vaud.
The tour of the castle is self guided, admission is 12CHF, they give you a pamphlet in multiple languages that describes the rooms in detail. You can also go on a guided tour for an additional fee, not sure what languages they give it in, probably French and English.
Please see my travelogues for a few more photos.
