Old part of town
by yumyum
I really liked walking around the old part which is around Sebastiansplatz and along Alte Simplonstrasse.
I especially like the bridge like piece connecting the "big" and the "small" Stockalperpalast and the onion domes on the Stockalper towers of the three kings.
Saltinabruecke : this bridge can be lifted
by globetrott
Saltinabruecke is the bridge that takes you to one of the main squares of Brig and even when the narrow stream of water does not look very dangerous it might flood after heavy rainfalls. The river is called Saltina (saltare is the latin word for jumping) named so because the stream is jumping up and down.
In case of a flood this bridge will be lifted in order to avoid damages. This bridge has a weight of 152 tons, that has to be lifted and it is done by waterpower that rises the whole bridge automatically in case of a flood.
Stockalperpalast & the gate to Zermatt
by globetrott
Stockalperpalast is the main attraction of Brig, in the south of Switzerland. This palace is the largest private building of Switzerland that is dating back to baroque times.
The Simplon-pass made a lot of people in Brig rich and weathly and in the innercourt of Stockalperpalace you can see 2 old postal-carriages that were used for the transportation over the Simplon-pass.
Brig

For me, my visit to Brig was about 25 minutes long.... unfortunately. It was a spot to change trains on my route from Luzern to Zermatt. It looked like a GORGEOUS town in the middle of those beautiful Alps. I've looked at other Brig pages here on VT and it looks like it has a lot of cool stuff! But, I guess I'll have to go back to Brig and really explore!
