Never stop skiing!!!
"Les Portes du Soleil" is one of the largest skiing areas in the world, stretching out over the French-Swiss border. Our basecamp was in France: Les Gets and litteraly the other side of the enormous ski arena, so ... we did it and it was super. Especially our lunch in the Swiss valley near Champery at the feet of "La Mure", a very steep skiing sloop "The Wall". Okay, we didn;t ski down, but went up here by one of the many ski lifts.
The urge to go skiing is something that I every winter again feel rising when Christmas is approaching. these years however, it's waiting until Ilja is old enough to start taking lessons. My first skiing years were from 1993 until 1998 of which the wintersport at "Les Portes du Soleil" (the gates of the sun) was the last. Hopefully, Ilja will inherit my "snow fever" so we can enjoy the fun together soon.
Champ?ry is one of the villages from where you reach the ski slopes from one of the biggest aki area in Europe, called Portes du Soleil. The village lies at an altitude of 1050 m. The cable car takes you in 5 minutes to Planachaux at 2000 m. During this short ride you have a magnificent, panoramic view of majestic Dents du Midi and the Dents Blanches. I took this pic from the internet.
the ski area contains:
650 km of slopes
14 resorts between Switzerland and France
208 lifts
1 ski pass
