Like any glaciers they are receding from the village. They didn't sem to reach the edges of the village as much as I remembered from our much earlier visit.. This picture taken with the zoom shows how they are shrinking back.

"High Altitude Hike Kreuzboden - Gspon"

take gondola lift from Saas Grund to Kreuzboden. There, a well-kept panorama trail leads to Hannig - see unique scenic view over the Saastal and the Mattmark area.
Go to the Grubenalp / lake Grubensee and then continue hike to the Hoferalp above Maiens?ss Heimischgartu (2,100m above sea level). The hike leads through the wonderful countryside to the Siwiboden, through woods of larches and mountain pastures past ancient water pipes (the "Suonen") to the Walser settlement Findelen. From here you reach Gspon in a short time and then descend with the cabin lift to Stalden where the postbus can be taken back.

"High Altitude Hike Kreuzboden - Almagelleralp - Sa"

Cable-car from Saas Grund to Kreuzboden. The hiking trail leads over the mountain pastures of Morgstein and M?lliga and on over a paved track to a wonderful scenic view.
The high altitude hike continues over the Grundberg mountain with its rare alpine flowers to the heights of the Almagell valley. From the hotel "Almagelleralp" the hike goes on for another hour until you reach Saas Almagell. Return to Saas Grund either on foot along the Vispe or with the postbus.

"Ecology Path Spielboden"

Ride the Hannig gondola lift and hike left of the station at 2,350m towards Sch?negg. Follow the slight descend towards the Torrenbach brook, always staying on route No. 10, and enjoy the breathtaking view. The panels alongside the trail teach you many interesting facts about the local lifestyle, energy sources, vegetation, the Fee glacier, and much more. Walking past the glacier's lake towards Spielboden, you can feed the nearly tame marmots. Later, you take a gondola lift ride back from the mountain station Spielboden.

"Zuckmayer Hiking Path, Saas-Fee"

The hiking path was named after the popular author Dr. Carl Zuckmayer in 1996. Zuckmayer strolled down this very path almost daily. Citations from his speech of naturalisation are engraved on 5 large serpentine rocks next to the trail. You reach the outer forest going to the north from the Vogelweid house, the former residence of Carl Zuckmayer. From there, you can climb towards "Býrenfalle" and then further up to Melchboden and the cafý "Alpenblick" (2,020m above sea level). Behind the cafý, follow the trail down to Saas-Fee past the Honegg where you can enjoy a wonderful view over the village. Duration: 2.5h.
