Getting from Milan Malpensa Airport to Sion?

I will get to Malpensa Airport on January 13th 2008 and I am looking for a way of transportation directly from Malpensa to Sion. I cheked on the internet the trains schedule, but it seems a little bit complicated. Can anyone help my with this?

There is no direct transport to Sion right from Malpensa, the most direct is by bus to Gallarate railway station and from there you can take a direct train to Sion (final destination is Geneva), but only every 2 hours, e.g. 12:58, 14:58 and 16:58.

Place de la Planta

The large pedestrianised Place de la Planta is the main square in the city centre of Sion.

It is probably the perfect starting point to explore the town centre as you find not only the Tourist Information Centre here, but also the bike stand of "Sion roule".

The square is surrounded by a few interesting sights.

Among them are the Government Palace (Palais du Gouvernement), the Diocese Museum (Musée de l'Evêché) and a monument commemorating the centenary of the integration of the Valais into the Swiss Confederation.

Local beer: Bière Valaisanne

A local beer brand in the Canton of Valais is the or Bière Valaisanne (French name) or Walliser Bier (German name).

The brewery was founded in 1865 in Sion. In 1972 it was acquired by the Feldschlösschen brewery which is Switzerland's largest brewery.

Popular beer types include their lager and the "Blonde 25" which is a fashionable light beer. It was launched in 1992 and became a huge success among young people.

Stade de Tourbillion

The Stade de Tourbillion is the home ground of the FC Sion.

The stadium was inaugurated on the 11th of August 1968 and underwent major renovations in 1989.

The four separate terraces can hold up to 16.500 people.

Hiking in the Sion region

Sion is located in the Rhône Valley, which is a well known wine growing region. The vineyards along the river Rhône offer many panoramic hiking paths.

When we hiked from St. Leonard to Sion, we realised that our path was part of two signposted hiking routes:

The 66 km long Chemin du Vignoble (Path of the vineyards) leads from Leuk to Martigny and passes Sion. On the way you find some information tablets about wine growing.

Another hiking path leads along the Bisse de Clavau, which are the irrigation systems for the vineyards. They exist since the mid 15th century.
