December ski trip
by hayleyoz
Hi,
Four of us would like to do a short ski trip to Verbier, departing Gatwick on the 26th December. We're thinking of going away for 5 days. As the chalets and other accom are geared for one week trips, we're not sure where to stay. We'll be using a hire car from Geneva, so we don't have to stay in the middle of the resort. We'd like to keep costs to a minimum.
Many thanks in advance :)

Wow... all I can really do is wish you the best of luck. Booking a stay between December 26th and New Years anywhere near snow in Switzerland pretty much needed to be done before last Christmas.
You may find accommodation in a hotel (3 star is ample here) somewhere nearer to Lausanne, or perhaps even down in the base of the Valais. Martigny, Sion, Leuk or somewhere like that.
Really though... you need to act fast when you find a suitable option. Nothing will hang about for long.
Hope you can work something out. All the best for the trip.

Thank you for your reply. I expected it to be very difficult. I suggested a simple (and cheap!) trip to Amsterdam to my friends, and now they're thinking Verbier! Oh no!
Thanks once again.

No problem. Good luck, and let me know how it works out and where you end up. New ideas are always good, and there are many places to be discovered (accommodation etc).

as mentined in a previous reply it will be difficult to get accomodatino during the winter holiday season.
I suggest to go to the Website of that area:

No worry, it's in english.
Check the accomodatios section, or call them to ask for available chalets.
have fun in switzerland

Travel Tips for Verbier
Great architecture!!!
by africateach
This is a scene from the "old verbier" street. There is an enormous sun dial across from the church where many weddings and baptisms (I've been told) happen. It was a wet and foggy day, but just imagine it when it is nice!!!
All around it now are condos and places for rent during the high season! Nice, but too rich for my blood!!!

Verbier skiing area is part of the 4 Vallées network (Verbier, La Tzoumaz, Nendaz, Veysonnaz, Thyon). You will get enough room for your favourite sports... The 4 Vallées region offers 412 km of ski slopes and 92 different lifts (skilifts, chairlifts, gondolas and cablecars together).
Verbier highlights are:
- efficient and modern lifts (experience the confortable ride of the Funspace 2000p/h, the brand new Chaux Express 2005 mix of chairlifts and gondolas 2400p/h or a squized trip aboard the famous Jumbo cabin with 150p ;-)
- Snow park availabe in La Chaux sector to be closer of the Sky...
- Ride the Mont Fort and enjoy the breathtaking view from the summit, before the steep downhill ride take your breath 8-)
- Enjoy the off-piste only on secured areas
- Enjoy the view on the Bec des Rosses, the playground of the famous Xtreme contest , you should see to believe how it is crazy to ride this rocky snowy peak.
- Escape yourself to the 4 Valleys ski area via Printze/Nendaz sector from Lac des Vaux or Gentianes/Mont-Fort sectors from kilometers on snowy tracks...
