 | Zermatt Hotels and Accommodations | Tips 1 - 10 of 59 | | We arrived in Zermatt around midday without having booked any accomodation in advance. So we directly popped into the tourist information office which is located right next to the train station. Although it was a lovely August weekend and the international Matterhorn run was scheduled we didn't have any problems to get a room. The helpful guy gave us a list of hotels in our price range and we eventually decided for the Hotel Elite which we called by freephone from the Tourist Information. It is a 3-starred centrally located hotel. Our room was spacious and even had a balcony with a view of the Matterhorn. The price for the doubleroom in mid season was 176,00 CHF (about 110 Euro; 2007). A large buffet style breakfast was included in the price. This is everything you would expect in an Alpine hotel. Friendly, helpful staff - and very knowledgeable about their village. Dark, heavy, intricately carved wood panels the room - even the ceiling! There is a big skylight in the bath (top floor). Huge balcony with a PERFECT view - on one of the most famous mountains in the world! There are also big heavy clunky keys (which always makes me think of Europe). These keys you of course leave at the front desk key-holder. One note on these key-holders - I've seen this sort in a few hotels in Switzerland now, and I think they are ingenious. You put the room key in its slot, and turn it, which locks it and allows you to take the bottom key, for the front door, with you. The breakfast room is also uniquely Swiss. Beautiful carved wood (light, this time) adorns every inch of the walls and ceilings. Of course you must have muesli for breakfast! and hot chocolate.
The view!! Leave a Comment Theme: HotelPrice: US$80-120 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: Kirchstrasse, Zermatt nullPhone: 0041 27 966 82 66Directions: The hotel electro-car will pick you up!Website: http://www.hotel-allalin.ch Other Contact: info@hotel-allalin.ch

 | | | | Hotel Weisshorn: Reasonable, Friendly Hotel | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
Friendly, family-run hotel about a 10-minute walk from the railway station. The common areas have an old-style woody feel, while the rooms are more modern and comfortable. Rooms with ensuite facilities are available, though you can save some money if you opt for the "shower down the hall." Decent buffet breakfast is included and served in the pleasant breakfast room. Downstairs is Restaurant Weisshorn, which serves good quality dinner at reasonable prices (by Swiss standards, anyway).
- Friendly and relatively inexpensive for the area - Great views from most rooms -- some with "peek-a-boo" views of the Matterhorn - Breakfast included - Caters to hikers, skiers, mountain climbers, and backpackers - Open year-round Theme: HotelPrice: US$40-80 » Currency ConverterComparison: less expensive than averageAddress: Am Bach 6,CH-3920 ZermattPhone: +41 (0)27 967 11 12Directions: From the train station, turn right (towards the Matterhorn). We decided to splurge a little for the New Year break and our research pointed us in the direction of this hotel. It wasn't based on any recommendation, it was just one of the few hotels that had availability for the week of new year - they'd just had a cancellation that morning!). You must try to insist on the Matterhorn facing side of the hotel to make it worth it. We stayed on the fourth floor, and ushered in the New Year on the balcony... watching the fireworks all over the town. It is situated at the top of a small hill, and is convenient to the various skifield transport stations in town (Sunnega, Gornegratt). There was a bus station (free bus service) about 100 metres from the hotel. Facilities included a swimming pool, steam room, sauna, etc. which I used just one time during the whole week. Somehow I just couldn't bring myself to be in small enclosed areas with naked people of both sexes seated side by side. Call me a prude, I don't care. You see them again at dinner, and think "oh my god, I saw you naked today..". But I digress. All in all, a lovely place to stay, a once-in-a-while experience. Guests tended to be of the 40-something or older variety... so it certainly was not a partying place. We're glad we stayed there, but will probably not go back only because we can't afford it!
Amazing views over the town and the Matterhorn. First class service from a very attentive staff. Meal times were a bit formal, but always a pleasure. Free internet in a small room near the reception... to check on the goings on in VT of course! (Never failed to amaze me how it was always empty when I wanted to use it!).
