In need of lodging in Zermatt - March 2008

by Trailhead

I have 3 mates traveling from the US for a ski vacation and we are in need of a flat from 6 March - 12 March 2008 in Zermatt. Willing to adjust dates if needed. Also, willing to stay from 6-9 March. I just want these guys to see Zermatt. Even willing to stay at different places.

Zermatt official website had a powerful and convenient renting flat search engine to fit your need, just try on:

Greetings from the Snowy and Sunny Swiss Alps!

I dont know if this helps,nevetheless... .You could find easy lodgings in Saas Fee which is not too far off from Zermatt and which is cheaper(AND cuter, car free town)Try Hotel Imseng run by Lukas Imseng. You could find it at the bed and breakfast sites of Switzerland.
Have a good trip,

Travel Tips for Zermatt

Highest Swiss peak

by Tripack

Around Zermatt you could admire many 4000m peaks. If you go to the Gornergrat you will discover the highest Swiss peak:

la Pointe Dufour (Dufourspitze) with its 4'634m which is part of the Monte Rosa.

At its base, two glaciers, the Grenzgletscher and Gornesgletcher, are joining to offer you an impressive view on this iced sea. Where you could guess on its surface some tiny alpinists conquering these surroundings peaks...

Ski, ski, ski

by Fam_Stoica

There are 3 major ski zones : Sunnegga-Blauherd-Rothorn, Gornergrat-Hohtälli-Stockhorn and Schwarzsee-Klein Matterhorn.
All three of Zermatt's ski areas soar to at least 3100m. This translates into excellent snow conditions, and long runs to the village (8 to 13km). Not only are the slopes long, but they are open for a long day! Lifts begin operation at 8-8.20am and do not close until 4.30pm in midwinter, while in April it is possible to still be skiing at 6pm! Speaking of long, Zermatt also has the longest winter season in the Alps. All three skiing areas are open from late November to the start of May - and the huge glacier area offers good skiing all through summer too.

Well known simply by its shape.

Many photos show the Matterhorn in all its majesty, I add to them and hope the viwer accepts the photos as a testimony of yet another visitor.

Possibly you visited Zermatt on one of those cloudy days, on a tour with no chance to return or on a tour when you were short of funds or without a camera. Then I dedicate these photos for your enjoyment.

The Glacier Express.

One road and one railway lead to Zermatt, but all visitors by car change at Tasch and finish the journey by train into Zermatt.

Connections form the rest of Switzerland are made at either Visp or Brig. Visp tends to connect with trains from the west and Brig from the north and east parts of the country.

The service appears to be convenient for all visitors, with something like an hourly service from places like Geneva and Zurich, each with International airports.

My impression at Brig was that the train to Zermatt was almost an add on, the platforms were outside the main station, no roof cover and little identification for first time visitors.

The manditory Matterhorn mountain picture

by Redlats

Of course the main reason everyone comes to Zermatt is to see the Matterhorn. The first time I went to Zermatt (in 1972), I think I had to stay for 6 days before the mountain came out from behind the clouds.

Not everyone is going to get a clear shot of the mountain because it really is behind cloud most of the time.
