Hotel Garni Tannenhof

This was the second time I spent a night here. Both times were due to ski touring in the Zermatt area. The first time was going out onto the Goernergrat and Monte Rosa area and the last time was coming in off the Haute Route.

This place can be a bit crowded but it is "the place to stay" for Haute Routers. I mean hey, the super rich folks won't stay here, but the mountaineers not paying guides to haul them around will be there.

They have rooms and open bays with bunks. Stayed in both. Never had much trouble sleeping in the bays since I was tired after the longest day of the Haute Route and had one or two beers on board. But the place is comfortable.

Call ahead for reservations if you are pretty sure when you will get in. We had some weather days and couldn't call on the last day, but they still were cordial, understanding and cool about it.

Unique Quality: They like being "the hotel" for the Haute Route and will work with you.

Directions: As you have your back to the train station (Bahnfof) door on the little square there, it is to your left and obvious.
