Best views in Zermatt

We decided to splurge a little for the New Year break and our research pointed us in the direction of this hotel. It wasn't based on any recommendation, it was just one of the few hotels that had availability for the week of new year - they'd just had a cancellation that morning!).

You must try to insist on the Matterhorn facing side of the hotel to make it worth it. We stayed on the fourth floor, and ushered in the New Year on the balcony... watching the fireworks all over the town.

It is situated at the top of a small hill, and is convenient to the various skifield transport stations in town (Sunnega, Gornegratt). There was a bus station (free bus service) about 100 metres from the hotel.

Facilities included a swimming pool, steam room, sauna, etc. which I used just one time during the whole week. Somehow I just couldn't bring myself to be in small enclosed areas with naked people of both sexes seated side by side. Call me a prude, I don't care. You see them again at dinner, and think "oh my god, I saw you naked today..".

But I digress.

All in all, a lovely place to stay, a once-in-a-while experience. Guests tended to be of the 40-something or older variety... so it certainly was not a partying place. We're glad we stayed there, but will probably not go back only because we can't afford it!

Unique Quality: Amazing views over the town and the Matterhorn. First class service from a very attentive staff. Meal times were a bit formal, but always a pleasure. Free internet in a small room near the reception... to check on the goings on in VT of course! (Never failed to amaze me how it was always empty when I wanted to use it!).
