    Zermatts finest!

    by

We arrived at night so we didn't see the magnificent view until the break of dawn.
What can I say except, WOW!
I'm not one to praise if a place is not worthy of it, in fact I am brutally honest and and don't hand out compliments unless they are well deserved but I will be singing the praises of the Riffelalp for a long while.

Isolated 600m above Zerrmatt you will find this small lovely ski in/out luxury hotel.
Our room had an amazing view , a very comfortable king size bed and a top of the line jacuzzi tub, very nice.
Our suite was big enough but I have heard the standard room are a bit small.
Service was very quick and efficient.
    I never waited for anything.
Swiss staff were helpful (curt but helpful)
    Italians staff much more friendly.
They have a dine around program with affiliated hotels/restaurant if you get bored with the food but I was more than satisfied and dined out only once when I was craving Japanese food.

Unique Quality: The pool is the highest outdoor pool in Europe but wasn't open long enough for me to utilize it.
The wellness center was very good and massages were excellent especially the
    le Stone treatment.
All of the wellness area including saunas, steam rooms showers etc were strictly adult and no swimming gear allowed (translation NAKED!) ....so get of the slopes and into the wellness area early to avoid the crowd.
I loved the steam room and dream room!!

More about Riffelalp Resort Zermatt

Chapel Riffelalp

by HORSCHECK

The Chapel Riffelalp is also known as Seiler Chapel. It was built after plans of the hotel pioneer Alexander Seiler and inaugurated on the 3rd July in 1887.

The lovely chapel has good acoustics and is therefore often used for concerts. It belongs to the Roman Catholic church of Zermatt.

Directions:
The Chapel Riffelalp is situated at the Riffelalp (2200 m) in the heart of Zermatt's hiking region.
The easiest way to get there is a 5 minutes walk from the Riffelalp station, which is served by the Gornergrat train.

Riffelalp tram

by HORSCHECK

The Riffelalp tram is the highest tramway in Europe.

It links the train station Riffelalp with the 5-starred Hotel Riffelalp (2222 m) and was built to transport guests of the hotel.

The 675 m long route is only served by the tram from June until October. The original tram was opened in 1899 but had to be closed 60 years later due to a fire which destoyed the hotel.

The hotel was rebuilt in 2000 and the replicated tram was inaugurated in June 2001.

Riffelalp tram

by sue_stone

If you stop at Riffelalp on your way to/from Gornergrat you may see a small tram. This red tram departs from Riffelalp station, and takes guests along the road to the 5 star hotel, Riffelalp Resort 2222.

The Riffelalp tram is special as it is the highest tramway in Europe. The tram first operated in 1899, but was damaged by fire in the 1950's. Years later the tram was resurrected and since 2001 it has been running again.

Primarily built to transport guests of the 5 star hotel, it is open to non-guests as well for a small charge (2 CHF in July 2008). Don't get too comfortable though, the track is only 675m long.
