Very good hotel, but spendy.
The people at the hotel were very nice and very helpful, they even picked us up at the train station in their electric van so we would not have to carry our bags the 3-4 blocks to the hotel. The rooms were neat, clean and the bathrooms were good size. Dinner and breakfast were included in the stay. All and all it was a very nice place and the meals were very good but in the heart of ski season the cost was about $350 a night. ouch.
Unique Quality: The hotel has a grat location right in the middle of town. They have a skiroom in the basement to put your ski's and boots. If you rent your ski's across the street (Inter sports) they give you 10% off.
This was by far the best hotel we stayed at in Switzerland. Because we did not have a balcony, the price was fairly reasonable. Our room faced a courtyard in back and was therefore very quiet. The whole hotel is decorated in authentic Swiss-Chalet style and is located on the main street (Bahnhofstrasse) in the center of Zermatt. Paneled walls, stone fireplaces, beautifully hand-crafted wooden architectural elements and flagstone floors add to its charm. The multilingual staff was accommodating and the breakfast (which was included in the room rate) was excellent. The hotel has a free wellness center with suana and whirlpool and there are two restaurants located on the ground floor. It is conveniently located with shopping and restaurants all around and is just a short walk from the train station and trailheads for hiking.
