Hiking in the Centovalli
by Callavetta
Hiking is a very popular activy in the Ticino. Hikers use multiple ways of getting to the many trailheads. From Locarno you can take a train or postal bus to a destination, then hike to the next stage, take a gondola across the gorge or up or down a mountain and then take a train back. One route, utilizing several scenic transportation methods is to take the boat from Locarno to Ascona, the bus to Porera then walk along easy mule trails (2.5 hours) to Rasa. At Rasa have a delicious Ticinese lunch at one of the rustic grottos and then take the gondola to Verdasio and the train back to Locarno. A GREAT day!

Locarno +++ The Cannes of Switzerland
by sabsi
I have been at the Lago Maggiore several times so this page is about Locarno as well as about Lago Maggiore!
I've been here for a few days in 1991 and back then we used Locarno as a base for day trips around the Italian part of Switzerland and North Italy. Afterwards I was here for day trips only. Unfortunately I haven't got loads to tell you about the city - what I enjoyed most was swimming at the Lido every morning and evening!
Enjoy!
