Locarno - or to be more precise its suburb of Muralto - has been my adoptive home for the past few years. I came here for work - and ended up falling in love: within a few years I decided to stop commuting and started looking for a nest. It's a small town and yet it's very much alive: there's festivals and concerts - and quite some tourists (ok fewer and fewer every year) in the summer months - so we get to see a bit of the world. My fondest memory is possibly connected with the year 2003: they are filming a major Bollywood blockbuster in and around town, so it's full of really friendly Indian people - it's quite a change from the usual tourist crowd we get. Fingers crossed that the film will be a huge success - we surely need to boost our tourist economy... and we're quite ready to open the door to India

Lake Maggiore lakeport

This is the port at Ascona, Switzerland. It was our first stop when taking the boat to Isola Bella. It takes about 10 minutes to load passangers and leave for the next port. Passengers can sit inside or out. Beverages are served and a dining room is available for meals. It took about 4 hours for us to get to the island.

There are plenty of restaurants and cafes with a Lake Maggiore view. It was a relief to eat pizza after living on alpine mountain food for a week. (not that it's not good-we just needed a change).
The pizzas we had at Lungolago Ristorante were just what the doctor ordered--YUM!

"THE CITY"

THANKS TO VT MEMBER CALL_ME_RHIA WE GOT A VIEW OF THIS CITY FROM SOMEONE WHO KNOWS IT WELL. THIS CITY IS KNOWN FOR ITS INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL.. FILMS ARE SCREENED IN THE OPEN IN THE PIAZZA GRANDE. WE WERE FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO HAVE A SUNNY DAY AND ABLE TO SIT OUTDOORS ON THE LAKE AND ENJOY LUNCH WATCHING SOME OF THE BOATS ON THE LAKE.

"THE STREETS"

JUST WALKING THE SIDE STREETS IS A SCENIC TOUR.

"HOMES ON THE MOUNTAIN"

ONE OF THE BEST PLACES TO LIVE IS ON THE MOUNTAIN ADJACENT TO TOWN. THE VIEWS OF THE LAKE MUST BE SPECTACULAR. THERE ARE HOMES AND APARTMENTS UP THERE.
