Lugano Centre

We enjoyed a short day trip here from Lake Maggiore in Itay. I remember just lapping up the sun in a cafe in the main square - Piazza Riforma - designed on the scale of Italinan grand opera.
A short distance south of the main square is the small church of Santa Maria degli Angioli which has fine renaissance frescoes.

In many ways Ticino is my favorite part of Switzerland, it has a lovely mix of the best bits of Swiss and Italian culture. It is more laid back and relaxed than the rest of Switzerland, but it retains the cleanliness, punctuality and respect. We thought that there were far more good looking guys here too, italian looks, romantisism etc, but Swiss manners!
day trip 4: gandria
by call_me_rhia
Gandria is the best preserved of the traditional fishing villages near Lugano... and it is a nice day trip destination. The best way of getting there is on foot: from the Castagnola area of Lugano it's about 30/40 minutes on a well-kept path. It starts right by the Museo delle Culture Extraeuropee (you can get a bus there) and it's all by the lakeside.
Once in Gandria, visit the small village and it's little alleys, then take a boat to the "Cantine di Gandria", where you will find an interesting museum dedicated to the border aptrols: "museo doganale svizzero". Here you can learn all about smuggling between Italy and Switzerland, especially during WWII.
You can then return to Lugano by boat, or else stop at one of the traditional restaurants by the lake, those that you can only reach by boat.

Public transport connects homes with workplaces. It takes us to shopping malls, cultural events and leisure activities, and above all it brings people together. Mobility links isolated communities and creates new prospects for the future.
In the transport maze, it's the Postbus that bridges the gaps!
Also check out the "Virtual Post Office", Code Directories, the Hours of Posts all over Switzerland, and more.

The days are long gone when Swiss Post used to concentrate solely on postal core business such as letters, packages and payments; today they sell more and more third-party products.
A number of post offices have been selling mobile phones, computers, books and stationary available at Swiss Post. Items are posted on the website.
If you are looking for a contract to limit the costs of operating a cell phone without having a residence visa in Switzerland, then the POST is the place for you.
None of the other cell phone distributors will give you a contract for your cell phone without a residence visa.
Monte Brè

Take the funicular to the summit of Monte Brè (933m) for wonderful views of the Lake Lugano region and Valais Alps beyond.
It was misty on the day I visited and, from comments from others on the net, it seems it often is. However, even if conditions are not the best, the views are lovely and the atmosphere of the place is very restful.
There are restaurants at the top so stop awhile, enjoy a drink and just soak up the surroundings. Then go for a walk around the well-marked paths to appreciate the views from every aspect.
