Reasonable Hotel

Beds in beautiful Lugano

The hostel is in the basement of the hotel and is made of 3 large dorm rooms and one small bathroom for everyone to share. The beds are large and fairly comfortable. Each bed has it's own large locker (you'll need a 2 SFr coin as a deposit) and a lamp. Access to the hotel is locked at night so each dorm room has direct access outside. The showers cannot be used after 11pm. Sheets not included, so bring a sleeping bag or sheet. Excellent location though!

Unique Quality: You can use the pool at the hotel next door. And there is a small, but well equipped kitchen too.

Nice Lugano Hotel

We stayed in the hotel, not in the hostel. The room was huge, even by American standards. It was clean and comfortable, with a lovely view. The bathroom was modern and clean.

Breakfast was a large buffet, and the pool was wonderful.

A perfect stay

It has been a wonderful stay. We had a very big room with 3 windows looking at the lake.
The furniture is very nice and it has been recently refurbished.
The breakfast is served in Hotel Continental, nest to Hotel Montarina and it has a very good variety of food

Hotel Montarina

25CHF, one off 4CHF charge if you need sheets.

Unique Quality: There are two buildings, the ground floors of which are hostel dorms and the upper floors are hotel rooms. I can't comment on the hotel section as I havn't stayed there but the hostel is fantastic. It is cheap for Swiss hostels, extremely clean, friendly staff, free use of a really nice swimming pool, some rooms are air conditioned, no curfew. Only down side, which may not be considered a down side by some, is that they are VERY strict about silence after 10pm. There are a couple of very scary security guards who enforce this rule to the letter. They have escorted people to the train station in the middle of the night because they were too noisy, or there is a 200CHF fine!

None of the hostel rooms lock, though there are lockers in the two big dorms if you want to use them. They have had an open door policy for many years and never had any problems.

The picture is of the largest of the dorms, rooms range in size from 4 to 16 beds.

Montarina Hotel & Backpackers

This place doubles as a Hotel and a Backpackers. You'll have to specify which you want when you make your reservation. I stayed in the hotel part and found it to be excellent and very affordable. As a guest you have access to the pool at the hotel next door. There is a full kitchen if you want to cook your own meals.

Unique Quality: My brother and I shared a double room here and were very happy with it. It was spacious and we had a small terrace overlooking the garden. The hotel and hostel are in seperate buildings but both in a nice setting.
