~Best way to visit Dangio if staying in Lugano

by NicolaHeidi

We are staying in Lugano in March 2008, the main reason being my husband wants to visit Dangio where his father was born.

What is the best way to travel to Dangio from Lugano and any more infomration regarding Dangio would be greatly received as I have found limited information on the internet.

Many thanks

It is certainly possible to get to Dangio by public transport (which is quite reliable in Swizterland). Go to www.sbb.ch for times (this is the railway site, but the planner knows about busses too). You could ofcourse also rent a car for a day and explore more of the surrounding area.

Travel Tips for Lugano

Lugano Tip

by Svitata

Taking walks along the Lake Lugano in summer. Everyone will be out sitting on the benches or taking walks in the park. The public pool (an area in the lake!) will also be filled with adults and children frolicking. Everything is alive yet peaceful.

Comfortable shoes are vital!

by AnnS

The best way to fully appreciate this area is on foot so make sure you pack comfortable shoes. As there are wonderful vistas more or less everywhere you look, make sure you take plenty of batteries and storage devices for your camera.

student trains

by xaver

A nice experience could be taking a train in Ticino area, around 7 am or 4/5 pm, the trains are usually full of students going or coming back from school, but there is the atmospheare of a holland coffe shop, many guys relaxing smoking their joints, it was realy a funny and an unexpected experience.

In Lugano they have their own...

by swissgabe

In Lugano they have their own airport (Lugano-Agno) and there are up to 10 daily flight to Zurich and destinations as Bern or Geneva are available to. Even International Destinations as London or Paris might also be available, but check before the timetable at www.crossair.ch or www.swissair.ch. From Lugano-Ango you have a train connection from Agno (10min walk from Airport) to Lugano Main Station ---

Train connections are available from here every hour to Zurich, Luzern, Basel or Bern. If you like to go from Ticino to French part of Switzerland (Geneva, Lausanne or Valais) you might go better via Milano (Italy) and take the route via Domodossola and Brig, this goes faster than going via Zurich/Luzern/Bern. There are also a lot of trains to Milano, Roma and Venice. --- By Postbus you can take a 4h trip to St. Moritz, but don't forget, this goes via Italy and you need your valid passport. In Winter the bus goes only once daily and in summer its up to two daily connections.
In Lugano they have a good (trolly)bus system. Not like in other Swiss Cities its a line with 1 number which makes return travel with the same number, each direction has its own number. Tickets you can get from the Ticket machine at nearly every station. ---

Taxis are also available but with usual Swiss price. ---

There are also ships available from here to Gandria, Melide, Morcotte or what ever.

HIKING MOUNT TAMARO

by broadoak2006

From Riverra take the Cable car to Alpe Foppa-the cable amazingly goes over a four lane motorway !!-a heart stopping experience.
Once at Alpe Foppa there is a magnificent viewpoint built out of the mountain-see picture.
You then can hike up from this spot at 1530 metres to the top of Monte Tamaro at 1961 metres,it is one hour of steep uphill hiking.
then it gets quite flat and you can spend aday walking along to Monte Lima along the rigdeline, the views are splendid and there is another cable car at Mount Lime to return you back down into the valley at a place called Migieglia. From there I hitch-hiked back to Lugano
