Lugano to Menaggio Italy by bus.
by dculpepper
Hello. We are staying at the Hotel Walter au lac at Piazza Rezzonico 7 while in Lugano. We then take the bus from Lugano to Menaggio. What is the best way from 6 adults to get from the hotel to the Lugano to Menaggio bus station? Thanks, Dana

There seems to be a daily direct post bus from Lugano to Menaggio, good for a transfer, but not for a day trip (leaves Lugano Station at 11:40 with final destination St.Moritz). Another possibility is taking bus or boat from Menaggio to Como, and then back to Lugano from Como to Lugano. Give us some more input please.

Sorry, I should have given more info. After Lugano, we are headed to Bellagio for 2 nights. Right now, my concern is the best way to get from my hotel in Lugano to the bus station (the one in which buses go to Menaggio) in Lungano. Thanks!

The postbus leaves at 11:20 from Autosilo Ballestra in Lugano, then at 11:40 from Lugano Stazione Nord (railway station). Everybody in Lugano knows these places. I am sure that the hotel will tell you to the best bus connection and/or order taxi for the short ride.
However, the bus to Menaggio is often full during peak season and advance reservation on the previous day is recommended. The hotel will do this for you.

Travel Tips for Lugano
Soak Up The Beauty
by AnnS
My favourite thing to do in Lugano is to take a leisurely stroll along the lakeside promenade. My favourite memory of Lugano is being able to wander around taking photographs without the fear of being bothered by anyone. As a single traveller, this can be a problem in many other places.
A city on a small scale with roads, river and rail
by dabidc
It is a delight for the children to see not only a city that they can feel comfortable looking at but also to see trains travelling acoss the fields and lake steamers crossing the open water.
Maybe there is not much interest in buildings, no matter if it is a church or the Parliament buildings.
Take A Day Trip To Locarno
by AnnS
From Lugano you can take a train to Locarno, on Lake Maggiore. It's an easy journey... just one change at Bellinzona... and you can enjoy some nice scenery from the comfort of the train.
The train station at Locarno is in the centre of town and close to the lake. The lakeside promenade is nice and the Old Town interesting but for me, the highlight of the day was taking the funicular up to the Santuario della Madonna del Sasso Church and monastery - a spectacular building perched on a hill above Lugano. It's a beautiful and historic building and worth looking around.
When you come out of the church, go back to the road and walk up past the funicular station to the smart Hotel Orselina. Inside is a very nice lounge with a terrace where you can sink into one of the wonderfully comfortable chairs, order a pot of coffee and sit and admire the amazing views.
Almost opposite the hotel is a cable car station which takes you even higher but I didn't have time to do that before nightfall.
Train
by ealgisi
Lugano has a central big railway station.
From Lugano you can go everywhere in Switzerland by train.
You can even easily go to Italy, for example Milan if you like to.
Daily connections are available to main cities like Zurich and also from outside directly to Lugano.
piazza riforma
by call_me_rhia
piazza riforma is the main square of lugano. It's quite a scenic spot and you can see some fine buildings and the town hall. Look around you closely: you'll notice that every building is either a bank (so very swiss) or a café (so very italian). In summer it's the location of many music festivals - and if there's no festival going on it's the right place to sit down and do some people watching.
