Grund
by globetrott
Grund is the name of another station of the cablecar-system taking you up to Mount Titlis. This is the last station that is included in the tell-ticket and from there you can take some great hikes around the lake and there are several restaurants as well at this lake. The cablecar TO Grund has lots of small cabins going every 2 minutes and you can get your own cabin as well. The Cablecar UPwards from Grund is a large cabin for maybe 40 people, leaving only every half hour or so.
Engelberg revisited after 43 years.

"Is it wise to go back after so many years?"
My wife and I first visited Engelberg when we lived in England and travelled by ship across the English Channel and by train across France. the party we were with all worked for British railways as they were known then. we arrived in Basle about 4.00am and then had another train journey to Engelberg, arriving late morning.
The day of arrival was fine and sunny the next day was wet with new snow on the mountains. The hotel was the Terrace and it was located above the Park, it even had a small rail line to take you from the park to the road leading to the hotel. the visit in 2001 was more a nostalgic day trip from Zurich before I travelled south east to Chur and beyond. it was a great place to visit then, I was looking forward to the second visit.
"As impressive as ever."
There were some changes in the 43 years, more hotels, more shops and cafea and restaurants. The Terace was more upscale, the grounds of the hotel offered the same striking views of the Titlis and the valley to the south and east looked much the same as before.
Yes it was a good idea to return for a visit.
