Hotel Rothorn Kulm: for a great view from Brienzer Rothorn

by globetrott

From Brienzer Rothorn you will have an excellent panoramaview of the famous mountains around the Jungfrau and you will also see all of Brienzersee. There is not only a great restaurant but they offer as well some hotelrooms and it might be an excellent idea to go uphill one day, spend the sundown on top of Rothorn, while all the daytourists are gone, spend the night in Hotel Rothorn Kulm and enjoy the sunset the next morning as well.
This great alpine hotel is in a hight of 2350 meters above sea-level, and you may get to this hotel by Brienzer Rothornbahn within 1 hour from the train-station in Brienz. The rooms in that hotel are simple, mostly just with running water, and they also have some large rooms for groups of hikers.
Reservation of rooms is advisable !!!
hotel-rothorn@brienz-rothorn-bahn.ch
In 2010 the hotel is open from june 5th till October 17th
the restaurant is open till October 24th

Just imagine the great atmosphere on a sunny evening in summer, after the last day-tourists have left the Rothorn and only a few people are left back.It might be a good idea to go up one day, spend the night there and walk down the mountain the other day. Various hiking-paths are at your choice to Brienz, in direction of Bruenig-Pass and Lucerne, to Meiringen & Haslistal.

Grandhotel Giessbach: it takes you back into the time of 1855

by globetrott

Grandhotel Giessbach close to Brienz is a very special place to spend a really quiet vacation far away from noisy cartrafic and it used to be one of the most elegant hotels of its time, when it was built in 1855 opposite of the village of Brienz, on top of a rock overlooking Brienzersee and next to a really scenic waterfall. The most glorious times for the hotel was between 1870 and 1914 but afterwards tourism changed a lot and it was hard to fill the rooms of such a remote hotel.
In 1985 it was restored and it looks really great again from inside !! In Grandhotel Giessbach you may still breath the good old times, that seem to have stood still for ages there... Click on my picture in order to see the great details of architecture - I also have a seperate page about Giessbach, the waterfalls, the cable-car, the hotel & surroundings!

Grandhotel Giessbach is a bit off the beaten path, a place to relax, and it is very helpful to get there by your own car.
You may get to Giessbach :
1)on the road from Brienz - BUT it is quite narrow and might be dangerous at certain times, because only at a few places it is possible to pass by other cars, and it might be good to avoid the times, when the public bus goes to Axalp.
2)By ship - the elegant, traditional way, most of the tourists came that way in the good old times of the hotel. Each and every ship on Brienzersee stops there !!
The hotel is only open in summertime and for a few festivities also around Christmas.

Renaissance Zurich Hotel: Very good hotel with sooo many Pillows!!!

by ilovenewjersey

The hotel is near the airport. You can take tram #10 from the Airport(aprox. 15 minutes) it stops right infront of the Hotel about 4 or 5 stops( GLATTPARK station). Use tram #11(across tram #10 Glattpark station) to go to the Old town, shopping center, main train station(Haufbanhof HB), and etc. takes you there in 20 to 30 minutes. it has less frequent stops and longer hours at night. I would get a "DAY pass" to use the tram, train, bus, to get around Zurich. Most of the tourist attractions are within the Haufbanhoff HB or main train station’s area. Avail of your daypass by hopping-in and hopping-off Trams. Go to the Old town, see the park and the lake.

The Ibis Hotel: Functional Chain Hotel in Geneva

by Paul2001

I picked this hotel because I have few complaints against the Ibis chain. They are pretty predictable in terms of quality. I rarely spend much time in my hotel room and such was the case here in Geneva. The hotel was located a short walk from the train station which I needed for I was in and out of Geneva pretty quick. Furthermore there are lots of restaurants nearby and a couple of good bars. This hotel was one of the most expensive I stayed in while in Switzerland which may say how tight my budget was.

The rooms was clean and fairly large too. This is common with Ibis. It is rare to get a large room in Europe. The hotel staff was pleasant, and being Geneva with the United Nations and so many world organizations located here, they were multilingual and let you know too.

Hostellerie de Genève: Fun Hotel in Vevey

by Paul2001

The Hostellerie de Genève is a wonderful old hotel that was in the middle of restoration during my visit. The hostellerie is also the location of a very popular restaurant that was quite good.

Each room in the hotel has a particular theme or motif. Mine was African so, I had all kinds of African decorations in my room. Sort of fun but the room itself was on the small side which made me think that place was a little on the overpriced side. It was also very noisy during the morning hours and at the dinner hours because of a nearby restaurant just below my window. The staff here was very welcoming.

The Hotel Elite: Adequate Budget Hotel in Sion

by Paul2001

I stayed at this hotel after finding the other hotels I wanted to stay in while in Sion were either booked up or over my budget. Even then I could only get a room for one night when I was trying for two. There was a festival going on the weekend I was in Sion so that messed things up regarding a room.
The hotel was decent enough with but the bathroom was dingy and room was a little worn.

The hotel has a popular restaurant on the premises. The staff was friendly but since Sion is a little off the tourist track, English was not well spoken.

Hotel Crystal: Cosy family run hotel

by pepemorris11

We stayed here for 8 nights. If you stay more than 6 nights in the low season, which we did, we had the room with breakfast for two for 130 swiss francs a night. They put us in a spacious room meant for 3. room fitted with fridge and tv, had coffee and tea making facilities and an ensuite bathroom and toilet.

There is a public balcony/sun terrace overlooking the Staubbach waterfalls. Hosts Hans and Marianne were very hospitable. Hans even lent us 2 pairs of walking sticks especially when he found that I had fractured my ankle 4 months ago. Good spread for breakfast and they even bothered to colour the shells of their hard-boiled eggs.
Only 5 rooms i think. has a lift.

La Petit Hotel: A Splendid "Small" hotel in Zermatt

by Paul2001

Probably the narrowest hotel I ever have stayed in, the Petit Hotel is indeed small. It is also very pleasant. Rooms are not big but they have everthing you really need such as cable TV and clean bathrooms.

The staff here is very friendly and helpful. They helped me out on warnings about hikings trails several of which had been snowed out. The also provide free access to the internet although this was on one laptap which was often occupied during my visit. The breakfast was good and plentiful.

The Tourist Hotel: Friendly Tourist Class Hotel in Luzern

by Paul2001

The Tourist Hotel is a popular and friendly hotel in Luzern. Even more pleasing is that it is very affordable when one considers the outstanding location just inside the city walls.

The rooms are surprisingly large for the price. From my window I had an excellent view of the mountains and river. Everything in the very bright room was well maintained and I enjoyed myself here immensely.
