Baden Spa town, Commercial area also.

My favourite thing about Baden is to tour the castle site, to take views of the town and then to walk around some of the town.

However one thing leads to another and after the castle visit come down to earth as it were and walk around Alt Stadt, mingle with the local people and see whaht they do.

There are many shops cafes and restaurants, there is a promenade above theh Limmat river and a pedestrian area, where it is safe to walk and browse in the shop windows.

I was fortunate that I had an excellent host from the Baden area, so it was a pleasure to visit Migros or Co-op and some smaller shops, to see how busy the shopping area was under the train station. Yes the visit to a Hamam, not like in Turkey, more an upscale establishment, complete with a sauna, a cool pool, a lounging area and for an extra price an excellent massage.

The rest and relaxation area was filled with the sounds of running water, refreshments in the form of lemon drinks and iced tea. A great incentive to sleep for a little while.

Scenic town on the Limmat

Just half an hour by train from Zurich is a very scenic and historic town worth exploring. It has a colorful old town, a medieval tower, a church, the Limmat River with a covered bridge, and a ruined castle overlooking it all. Even on a warm summer day, the place did not seem too crowded. Most of the people in town were in the more modern shopping areas adjacent to the train station. Upon entering the old town, it was a lot less busy. This is a good place to walk around, enjoy the peace and quiet, and take a few pictures. There are many green areas around, and the overall view of the area reveals a very nice surrounding country landscape.

"On top of Baden"

Welcome to visit Baden (16'104 inh.) the biggest city in Aargau, but only 2nd biggest place, for the village of Wettingen is the so called biggest village of Switzerland (17'833).

Baden is thanks to its perfect location a very frequented city. Baden is connected to Zurich and Bale/Berne by rail way and free way.

Already the old Romans knew to appreciate Aquae (Baden) for its warm and healing wells.
