Beautiful buildings
My favorite memories of Basel were things like the cleanliness of the city, and in particular the beautiful, colourful buildings, flowers in window boxes, etc. Here was a nice scene near a small market near the centre of Basel

Hi folks
I will be driving from Freiburg to Tremezzo in Italy by the following route below which passes through the edge of Basel. I would like to know how i go about purchasing a Swiss Vignette Highway pass. Can I buy one in service stations or the border crossing?. Also will i need to have Swiss currency or can it be bought with Euros?.

Thanks
Gary
You can buy at the border, at border crossing you will be directed to a line of vehicles needing to buy a vignette.
Cannot answer the Euro question as we always paid CHF
You will be able to purchase at service stations before you cross the border Im almost certain...as it was my experience doing so crossing into Austria from Switzerland three years ago..Im also sure that Euros will be accepted if you dont have Francs..Ive just returned from Switzerland last night an saw many places where prices were indicated in Euros!
Have fun in Switzerland Garry!!

Wander through the beautiful old town, accros Mittlerbruke and along the river bank, taking a break to enjoy the sunshine. If your energetic, or on wheels, continue down the river to the Wiessen and along towards Lorrach.
This waterproof bag will hold your street clothes
so you can undress and jump into the Rhine with your bathing suit and then get out and put on your clothes again. Purchase the special bag when you arrive in Basel.
This is the place where 3 European countries come together (somewhat like the 4 states point in Amerika).
Here we have France, Germany and Switzerland.
Its one of the reasons why I like to live here.
You can go shopping or to the movies or in restaurants not only in one country, but with one small "hopp" you are over the border....
But back to that "point". It is located on a half island in the Rhine and marked with a silver tower or sail (you can see it in the background of my pic).
I do not think this is a "must see", but on sunny days it makes a good excursion out here.
There is also a Restaurant here (modern as you see) where you can sit inside or outside and have a glace or a cup of tea etc..
See the ship in front of it? It is a cruise ship for excursions on the Rhine. The Lällekönig. There is also a station here for the waterbus.
The Best way to reach 'Basel' is by SBB - Swiss Railway from Zurich. Its just 1 hour or few minutes less journey between these two cities. Basel has gotta International Airport as well which connect nearly the whole europe to this swiss city.
by Bus or Tram.
