Cosy Swiss hospitality near the old town
Hotel Steinenschanze is a 3-star hotel located in a quiet area of Basel, but within walking distance to the old town, market place and shopping area. I was on course at the Swiss Tropical Institute and the hotel was a 5-minute tram ride to the Institute. The reception staff are friendly and offer helpful tips on transportation and sights.
Unique Quality: The rooms are simply furnished with attached bathroom and TV. The breakfast room is at the basement of the hotel and offers a spread of cheese, bread and pastries for breakfast.

Cosy family-style hotel close to the old town
Hotel Garni Steinenschanze is well located just 10 minutes walk from the old town. The staff are friendly in typical Swiss hospitality style. The tram stop is just across the road and takes you all the way to the old town and across the Rhine to Messe Basel.
Unique Quality: The rooms are typically Swiss - 2 twin beds with comforter and attached bathroom. The room is clean, bright and quiet. Continental breakfast is served in the basement - the selection is good. In the summer, you can relax in the outdoor garden.
