No frills, dorm-like accommodation
This is a simple, basic hotel, pricey for what you will normally get elsewhere but in Bern would just be about average. Rooms are dormitory-like, and I even had the bad luck of getting one whose floorboards were so worn that in some places they had swollen out of shape that when you walked over them they creaked like crazy and were in danger of being torn out. And overall the floor looked really dirty. The walls between rooms are also somewhat thin -- I could hear the guy in the adjoining room everytime he coughed. As common in Switzerland, the pillow is unbearably soft, I had to double it up, and even then was still uncomfortable. Overall, I didn't have a good night's sleep in the 2 nights I was there.
The reception is polite, not welcoming, as is usual here. The breakfast is reasonable, at least there were several kinds of bread and the coffee was not bad. Don't expect any nice views from your window, this is a residential/commercial area.
A place good enough for an overnight or 2 nights' stay, and not more.

There's nothing wrong with this hotel, particularly, so you might as well stay here if it comes up cheapest for you on www.hrs.com or www.hotel.com, as it did for me.
It's within walking distance of the main station, particularly if you take the express elevator from track 13 up to the fourth floor (Große Schanze) and walk from there.
