Nice location between Bahnhof/Barenplatz
This hotel belongs to the small group of ZG hotels in Switzerland. A sister hotel, Innere Enge, is also here in Bern (has a great restaurant). Both are good choices. Savoy has air-conditioned rooms (unlike most hotels in Bern) in case you happen to be here during a hot spell like July/August 2006. It's less than a block east of the train station, very convenient if you're carrying luggage with you, on Neuengasse. I'd expected it might be noisy given its proximity to the station, but the pedestrians wobbling about at 2:00-4:00 AM seem to prefer hotels bordering the streets near the Kornhaus, e.g., Metrepole, Kreuz, Bern.
If you have five minutes to spare getting to/from the station, want something more pastoral, and like live jazz (fall thru spring), I'd recommend Innere Enge. You won't find views of the Alps or the city (obviously) anywhere downtown.
