Re: hotel

When I was a kid my parents always had to go to the Brienzerbuerli with me. I loved it! It's a family owned hotel with a very nice atmosphere. It also has it's own bakery. Check out their webpage: www.brienzerburli.ch

Travel Tips for Brienz

Lake Brienz

by travelfrosch

The blue water and pristine surroundings are very peaceful. The boat appears to depart not far at all from the train station.

OK, so I was just passing through. I took some really nice pictures and I want to post them!

Giessbach Falls

by sandysmith

Take a lake steamer on Lake Brienz to the little Giessbach landing station and take the little funicular which goes up to the Giessbach Hotel (very romantic - suitable for honeymooners) or walk up if you are feeling energetic. The lower falls are easily viewed from the lakeside but more spectacular views and thundering sounds of the mighty water can be appreciated higher up.

Close Up Look

by Rhondaj

About 100 rural house and other types of buildings that were in danger of being pulled down at their original sites were relocated here. The buildings are spread out over 66 hectares ( whatever the heck that means-but I can tell you this- it's a BIG area).

The buildings are arranged by region. So you get your guide and wander the paths from region to region. You can go inside most of the buildings, which are furnished. They try to recreate the atmosphere too. I especially enjoyed the farmhouse that smoked sausage. They were really doing it-so it was all smokey inside-and people lived there amongst the smoke! I bet they were easy to pick out of a crowd when they went into the village...

Meiringen - Sherlok Holmes & more close to Brienz

by globetrott

Meiringen is in just a short distance from Brienz and it is well known for beeing the place, where Sherlok Holmes died next to the Reichenbach-falls.
In der very centre of Meiringen you may see the world's first authentic replica of the living-room of Sherlock Holmes in Bakerstreet 221b. This replica was made according to the exlanations, given in the books and it includes all the small details beeing mentioned there. This room is shown in a small museum that includes plenty of other interesting Holmes-souvenirs, letters that were sent from all over the world to "Sherlock Holmes, Bakerstreet, London" etc.etc.etc.
You really might get the feeling, Holmes was a real person, how else could they show his private things there...

The Sherlock Holmes Museum is open
May-September : Tue-Sun 01.30-06.00p.m.
October-April: 04.30-06.00p.m.

Family Holiday in Brienz

by frannicksmith

"A great place for a holiday!!!"

We've just returned from 2 weeks in Brienz - we all agreed it was the best family holiday we've had. Brienz is a small town on the edge of Lake Brienz with marvellous views across the lake to the mountains on the other side. All the buildings are wooden chalets – which gives it much more character than larger towns such as Interlaken. We soon found a handful of good restaurants, serving a range of Swiss food, pizza and pasta dishes. Most visitors only stay a few nights and move on, but we found it to be an excellent base to explore the region.

"Travel"

Brienz is only 16 minutes by train to Interlaken Ost – the starting point for trains to the Jungfrau area – including Wengen, Murren and Gwindelwald. It also has connections to Spiez, Thun (1h) and Bern (1h20m). In the other direction, Meiringen (10min) has the Sherlock Holmes museum, Reichenbach falls and a cable car to Hasliberg.

The boats on lake Brienz can take you to Giessbach falls, Interlaken or one of the villages in between.
