Underneath the Eiger North Face

I would definately stay here another time. The staff has been very friendly and helpful. Rooms have been very clean, as all of the facilities were top. The cleanest hostel I ever visited. It also was nice that we had a six bedded room for us two.... It seems that they don´t mix guests with each other, if there is enough space in the rooms.... The room itself has a washing basin, the toilet is on the floor, and the showers are downstairs, and really clean! There is one shared shower (one for women and one for men) but also some cabins if you prefer that.

There is a breakfast buffet where you can help yourself. It includes: bread, butter, jam, mountain cheese from Grindelwald, ham sausage, cereals, hot and cold milk, yogurt. Coffee, tea or hot chocolate and Ovomaltine are there to get awake.

Each bed has one locker inside the room, with a deposit of 5 CHF you can lock your belongings if you like.

Unique Quality: What I really liked best of this hostel is it´s location right next to the train station of Grindelwald Grund. Our room was to the Eiger North Face side and so we had this giant view from our beds.... It was great reading books about its history while watching the North Face. It´s also great to go hiking, as all trains and cable cars are easily reached.

You should notice that in the evening there are no trains going to Grindelwald city center, and no busses. The last train goes at 7.24 p.m. It´s 15 minutes by foot, but uphill. It´s a nice walk though...

Good Price

The Mountain Hostel is located at the valley floor below the main Grindelwald train station. There are 3 ways to get to the hostel: (1) take a 15 minute walk downhill on a pathway, (2) take a taxi, or (3) take the Jungfraubahn train one stop to the Grindelwald Grund station, which is a short distance from the hostel. If you are going to Kleine Scheidegg or the Jungfraujoch from the hostel, be sure to use the Grund Station nearby. This will also make the ticket slightly cheaper.

The rooms were basic, but adequate. My friend and I had a two bedroom private room with the sink in the room. Duvets are provided, but the sheets must be rented if you do not have a sleeping bag. Be sure to bring a towel. The breakfast was good, and the people seemed very friendly.

Unique Quality: I really enjoyed the view of the Wetterhorn outside the window.

I keep returning there....

Wonderful view on the Eiger and all surrounding moutains, wonderfully quiet, no nightlife but the restaurant, delicious Bort-coffee and extremely nice staff, just as nice in summer as in winter!!

Unique Quality: really clean and for the rest: see above! the price is including half board, so what more do you want?
