Recommendations for economical eateries

by libbis

Is there a COOP with self-serve in Grindelwald ?

Or could any expert advice those economical eateries in Grindelwald.

Thanks in advance

Re: Recommendations for economical eateries

Sorry, no Coop in Grindelwald. By the station there's a grocery shop with a good choice of ready to eat foods. If you look for places where you can sit down and eat comfortably, but less expensive than a restaurant, I suggest to go to one of those bakeries with tea-room. They make also toasted sandwiches with ham and cheese. I think I saw also some pizzeria in Grindelwald, but I cannot remember where exactly.

no, the closest with a restaurant seems to be in Interlaken OST, while you have a MIGROS with a big selfservice restaurant in Interlaken WEST, and both are quite close to these trainstations of interlaken.
But as said above, bakeries are a good choice, like I had been in Bäckerei Ringgenberg, see my pics here :

Thanks for every of your replies, they are helpful. Guess I will have to shop around in the village for eateries when I am there. Thanks again.

No more greenland-dogs on Jungfraujoch ;-((

by globetrott

NO more dogs on top of the Jungfrau anymore !
The special breed of Greenland-dogs was living on Jungfraujoch in the so-called "Polarhundekolonie" for more than 100 years. At first they were needed in order to supply the workers and engeneers building the train-track, later-on they became a tourist-attraction and during summer you may go around the glacier in sleds torn by these Greenland-dogs.
The living-quaters of the dogs were close to Eigergletscher and it was possible to be visited by tourists upon appointment - see the telephone-number below !
The dogs lived there in small groups and could run around freely in a fenced area at the Eiger-glacier or return to their stables. They also participates in various dog-sledge-racinges and TV-productions.

Schynigge Platte

by globetrott

Schynigge Platte is in a distance of a fullday-hike from Grindelwald. At first you have to take the cablecar to First, walk towards the Faulhorn ( that part is quite steep and exhausting) and follow the path to Weberhuette and Schynigge Platte. The total hike from First is about 6 hours and somehow I think it is better to go up at Schyniggeplatte from Wilderswil (next to Interlaken) and walk to First.
Just be careful, the last cablecar from First is at 05.00p.m., the last train from Schynigge Platte is normally at 06.00p.m.

Final shot from Kleine Scheidegg.

by dabidc

The presence of the back hoe suggested that some work was being done on the rail system or the pathways or even the start of construction of a new building.

Whatever it was a final shot framing the mountains at that level.

Trottibikes

by cjohnson99

More of a must Do rather than a Must See.
Trottibikes can now be hired from the Bort station between Grindelwald and Grindelwald First. We took the hike from Grindelwald First to Bachalpsee to Waldspitz to Bort and then took the trottibikes back to the Grindelwald base station. These are great fun and if you are a bit pushed for time, get you back that much quicker. We used a camcorder on the bikerack and it is superb.
